I am going to check out this bike on the weekend. It looks to be well used shall we say. Any ideas as to what model and year?

I don't know the model but it looks entry level and in poor condition. The rear derailleur appears to be Shimano Light Action, while the front appears to be Shimano Z-series, The levers are clamp style, friction units. They're also very high on the down tube and there's a square brown patch behind the levers, like the brazed-on boss is missing. It also has exposed brake mounting nuts, another indicator of entry level for the era. The bars look very shiny, like they are bare, chromed steel and the brake hoods are missing LightAction/Z-series would put it no earlier than 1984 but the fade paint would move it into the late 1980s and the white stem probably moves it into very late 1980s. Proceed with extreme caution.
