Dunno, haven't tried it yet. That's a racing gear, way too big for commuting IMO. But I like to spin high rpms so there's also that on the flip side. I commute on a 42/17 sometimes.

yeah, to each his/her own. I personally hate mashing low rpm's if I don't have to, just my style.

Today I wanted to go long, but I was just tired from getting up at 5 to volunteer two days in a row, today at the veloswap and yesterday at a race, that went very well for me, more on that later. Submitting my cat 2 upgrade now, I got the points!
Instead I just went for 2 (hrs) and hit 2x4' anaerobic and 2x10' aerobic threshold intervals. Had modest targets in mind knowing I was tired and finished each one nice and strong. I gues I still had more in there to squeeze out after yesterday!

I also didn't mash once, but I did produce a lot of power during the 4 minute ones . For me at least. Also I'm reliably clocking in at 145 lbs for the first time since college (2010 grad). Sweet.

Today I violated Jobst's Rule #1 and put some oil (Chain-L) on my FG's chain without stripping it to clean dry metal first. I was going to see how long the factory lube would stay smooth and quiet on its own, and I gave in before the 200 mile mark. Cleaning it seemed pointless because we have another week of rain ahead of us.

Got some new kit in the mail and realized the Castelli bibs I bought on sale are Team Sky bibs. That'll be a fun throwback pretty soon. Also went for a 25 mile FG ride to try them out -- good shorts.

Fresh Garbage
Today I finished building my mother's first road bike since the 80s.
My mother expressed some interest in doing longer rides and having more speed than she feels like she can get by riding the hybrid she bought at REI several years ago. I gathered the spare parts I had and ordered a few new items while I kept an eye out for a frame. I kept an eye out for complete bikes but I wanted to build it myself.
Linus Libertine frame
Terry Liberator X saddle
Shimano Tiagra series 4500 shifters
Shimano Dura Ace series 7800 triple crank
Shimano 105 series 1055 derailleurs
Shimano R451 brakes
Shimano Claris / Mavic CXP wheels
Deda hot pink tape

Thanks! I forgot to point out that this frame is double butted chromoly and has pretty generous tire clearance because it comes with fenders as a complete bike. 28c tires pop in no problem. I'm kind of jealous that it can't be my bike

Barrio Logan GP cat 3/4, 4th/50+.
Placed fourth out of a breakaway (of 6) that I started half-way through. By my math, this puts me at 30 points, enough for me to upgrade so that I can race at the next level (cat 2). I'm so happy!
I had sort of penciled this weekend (and this race specifically) as when I wanted to have everything wrapped up. I've been very dedicated this season and I'm ready to take a step back from spending so much energy on training and racing. With marriage and family on my radar now, I see my time and availability for bike racing beginning to wane soon, so I took my preparation more seriously and as a result I'm stronger and lighter than ever. I've proven to myself that I can be a strong, fast breakaway rider and that I'm ready for a higher level of speed and tactics in my racing for next year.
I'm ready to travel, backpack, camp and just ride for fun for a few months! It's so great that everything came together and that I was able to plan and execute my season just how I wanted. The season has been a bit of a ride with ups and downs and I'm just so happy it all came together for me by earning my final points in my home race!
Full race report here if you're interested.
this is all 6 of the break (my break) - we were about 1/2 lap up by the finish (~45 s)

Yesterday I did the Canyon "Belgian Waffle Ride" and I'm still trying to eat my way out of it today. I was riding it as a "team" with a few lower (racing) cat. teammates and just having fun. It features 40 miles of dirt/gravel/single track, some of which is MTB worthy (Lake Hodges). Doing it on 25 c tires on a rim brake road bike was not the best choice, but with 100 miles of road a full on gravel bike is a bit slow. Interesting mix of setups out there, really unique ride.
I had two rear flats within ~10 mi of eachother near the end which kinda pissed me off, but you can kinda expect to "burp" a tubeless road tire when you're constantly slamming it on rocks. The endless dirt lake hodges section really took it out of me.
After that (~100 miles in) I was so far back (about halfway down the starters) that I just hammered the remaining miles and just caught and passed tons of people which was kind of exciting I guess. I wasn't really hurting until the top of double peak (final steep climb) but at that point you're pretty much done.
Unique event! Honestly it made me want a more modern disc brake road bike so that I could run 28s or even 30s for it next year. Total blast!
Summary
Total time: 9:10:13
Duration: 8:25:25 (92%)
Moving time: 8:17:38 (90%)
Distance: 131.8mi
Climbing: 10262ft

Filed the lawyer lips off the fork on my cx bike. Don't know why it took me so long.
