Yes, that is the Ritchey adjustable stem. The longer the stem, the higher you can put your bars with it.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread since I should be picking up a 54-55cm Marinoni, which is a little too big for me at 5'8" or just under. I haven't been measured since I was still actually growing. Anyway, the frame is beautiful, so I hope I can compensate if it ends up feeling too big.

Standover is barely okay. There's a little pressure from the top tube when I stand with my feet flat, but when will my feet be flat on a fixie?

My standover is fine, reach is my only issue. That said, you should only really worry about the relative positions of the seat, pedals, and handlebars.

A picture of you on the bike would go a long way in offering suggestions.

Best advice in thread so far. Go back to the shop you bought it from and have them help you. You might end up paying more for the stem, but it'll still be cheaper than buy the wrong stem four times.

I'm 5'4" and I can ride a 54-55cm frame pretty comfortably, with an inch or so of exposed seatpost. Remember that standover is pretty meaningless, and that frame should fit you fine.

Oh, I never meant to imply that standover is an important aspect of a fitted frame. It's hardly not a non-factor though, since once in a while one does need to stand over his bike, hopefully without giving the balls too much of a squeeze. 5'4" on a 54cm, eh? TT or ST?

Here ya go. Sorry if this is overkill, but I had the camera out so I went kinda crazy. THANKS!

On my road bike, my arms are slightly more bent and I'm in a slightly more upright position when I have my hands positioned like this. It's more comfortable like that (my road bike is about an inch+ shorter top and seat tube).

Ok, so I went to the local bike shop and the dude was soooo helpful. I got there right when they opened so there were no other customers and the guy fit me with a slightly upward sloping 60mm stem and I lowered the seat a bit. Now it feels amazing, better than my road bike. I think I actually like the longer top tube and short step--it makes it so responsive.

Now I just need some bullhorns and I'll be all set.

BTW, the bike shop was Pedal Power Bike & Ski in Acton, MA

Just curoius, can you provide pics of your new stem? and biek? and maybe you on it

i just got a new steamroller and have the exact same problem you do. I think the reach is probably far for my 53cm. I am 5'8" (on a good day) btw..

I just caught this thread, and with advice all over the place regarding sizing, glad to see you and I agree, and are the exact same height on a good day

I ordered a 49cm steamroller 2 weeks (not in stock yet) because the TT is 529.5. I really looked at the geometry's a long time becuase ordering the smallest bike they make felt wierd, but come on, the freak'n TT is 54.7 on the 53cm frame!

edit: but I'd cancel it this minute if we can get that Barenuckle group buy going

im about 5.7 maybe 5.8 and I ride a 53cm steamroller with a 90mm stem and it fits me perfectly. Im sure you could make the 56 work somehow. I'd see if you could sell the frame and get a 53 and probably run a 110 stem or something.

I agree. give it a bit of time and switch things up with the bars and stem. Unless you have already spent alot of time on a bike of similar setup that you KNEW fit you perfectly, its too early to insist that this bike cant fit.
