bar & lever question!!

I purchased a 40 cm Soma Urban Pursuit bar and a pair of Soma Urban Pursuit levers. However, I can't seem to get the levers in to the bar ends, even after loosening the bolt under the rubber cap. Does anyone have any advice? I'm assuming they're designed to work together considering they both have the same name, so what am I doing wrong?

You probably turn the bolt counterclockwise to secure them into the bar end. That's the way bar end shifters work, anyway-

They came in a clear plastic bag with no instructions whatsoever. The metal part that doesn't fit in is not adjustable at all... I might be able to force it if I grease it, but I'm not sure

Have you tried fitting the plug in the bars all by itself? You could try removing it from the lever, threading the bolt into it and gently tapping it in.

If it still won't fit, some judicious sanding may allow it to fit. It should expand once the lever bolt is installed and tightened, so any sanding scratches won't show.

I'm not sure what your point is, since the Soma bars fall within that range.

Anyway, I finally got in contact with a Soma rep who assured me that those two parts are supposed to work together. He advised sanding the inside of the bar a little bit (which doesn't void the warranty), and told me to call back if they still didn't fit.

WOW. What kind of tolerances are these guys running with their products? A snug fit is desirable but asking your customer to break out some sandpaper is a bit much, non?

Yeah, I was pretty amazed as well. I think they went with ~1mm tolerance, but then when the bar was chromed some got on the inside edge of the tube and decreased the diameter a little bit.

Oh well, too bad Soma is the only option for that size bullhorns.
