Workcycles FR8
How strong is the universal FR8 frame? With only one downtube is it ok for a friend of mine at church? She's 5'9" and weighs 165#.
Out of curiosity, what is the stand over height on the "X" frame?

On yer bike
Are you asking because you doubt Workcycles' claimed load capacity? These are completely overbuilt bikes used for all manner of heavy hauling purposes. Why a Workcylces in the first place? Any bike is strong enough for the rider you reference.

The Fr8 is insanely over built. I had one for 3 years and carried up to 400 lbs (self+2 kids+groceries) with nary a shimmy or frame flex. At times when my kids are wiggling around on the back of my Haul-a-day, I miss the stability of the Fr8, but then I remember what a slog it was to ride unloaded. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who doesn't have to regularly carry heavy loads.

She knows someone who is selling theirs. they want $300 for it.
The head tube is a cantilever so in my mind that is asking for problems. But I might be wrong. I was once before back in 1981.

We've been selling Workcycles bikes here for 10 years and I've never seen an issue with the frame. At $300 it's a steal. I highly recommend buying it.

Workcycles FR8
Hello All,
I just purchased one a few days ago and I use it for commuting and errands. It will carry my 260# frame and all of the dogfood and groceries I can load on ( like momma cat carrying her kitten). Wonderful bike smooth on the road. My commute is short, 8km round trip with only 1 very small hill. There is a pic in the intrduction thread , but I will post one here as well .

I wrote up a summary of my Workcycles FR8 last fall:

It's a really amazing bike, and performed wonderfully this winter in snow and sub-zero temps. Wish I'd bought one years ago.
