How to bore a MTB Shifter to Fit on a Dropbar?

So want to put the Shimano SLX 7000 shifter on dropbars. Everything is bought.

Being a MTB shifter the clamp is bored for 22.2mm but the drops are 23.x.

Removing 1.xmm of ALU cant be that hard can it or am I missing something.

I was going to try just using sandpaper on my finger to start with.

It looks like you should be able to take off a half mm of material, and still be fine. Don't take off too much. The strap may almost reach as-is if you used a longer bolt. Anyway, you will want a tight fit.

I'd probably use a round file or a small drum sander.

Have you seen the Microshift Mega 11-Speed MTN Bar End Shifters?

Sandpaper wrapped on a wood dowel will probably work faster and do a more even metal removal job.

Yeah but

I looked into those. But the SLX 7000 is a 11speed shifter for $25 and works flawlessly with the companion RD.

Just did a search, and it appears that inexpensive aluminum 25.4/22.2 drop bars are available. Use shims from a beer can at the stem and you're in business.

If you go the sanding route, wear eye protection and a respiration mask.

Reaming

You are removing 1/2 the differences in diameters , the measurement is a radius..

I use bar end shifters on all my drop bar bikes,

Trekking bars are 7/8'', 1" center,, they use MTB/straight bar controls..

also offer a lot of variety in hand holds..

Removing it is easy. Removing it round, centered and the correct size is less easy. Go slow and keep checking, don't remove too much

My immediate thought as well. I guess most of the ones available cheap/free are narrow from the bike boom, but there are still being made in that diameter in the wider sizes that are more popular now.
