Eurovelo 1: From Rochelle to Nantes with children. It is paved? How much?
Hi,
We are a family with two daughters (5 and 7 years old). We have some cycling experience (Danube, Rhin, Garonne, Loire). At Easter we want to cycle the section Rochelle - Nantes following Eurovelo 1.We would like to ask if the route mostly follows paved bicyle paths, or low traffic paved roads. What is the percentaje of unpaved paths?
We are asking this because of the chindren. For them and specially for the youngest daughter, it is much more confortable cycling on paved paths.Thank you very much of your advices.

I think there are paved paths? I think some where pointed out in the televised coverage of a section of the Tour this year.
Signed, a jealous midwestern.

In any case, it's a very safe route, even if some is unpaved. The northern (inland) section is probably the more challenging in terms of surfaces, especially in poor weather, but still very doable. The only issues I had after Nantes was sometimes sand on the path.
https://www.velodyssey.com/ has most of the information you seek. Couple it with https://cycle.travel/map for surface information and you're 99% there.
