Cool C&V movie
I shared this video a few years ago. Stumbled upon it again. Some great insight and footage from the mid 70's. Oliver was a regular in the Chicago racing scene.
The footage where there is confusion about the race course was the IL state championship. Al Herrewyers was the state rep, and Theo Kron was an official, with a voice I will never forget...."Chewnyas to the line, Seenyas on deck".

Thanks for posting. Great footage. Anybody else notice how racers seem to ride in the drops more then than they do now?

On the Grant Park course in Milwaukee coming down the hill by the water-tower and shooting out onto Lake Shore drive into the wind off the lake in a big pack is still a strong memory.
Thanks @big chainring!

Brifters, modern saddle-to-bar drop increasing over time, and IMO also the fact that old brake levers were meant to be operated in the drops rather from the hoods (the leverage from the hoods was pretty bad).

The talent back then was something else. I read that between '74-'76 was a peak for USCF licenses. In the spring of '75 I started racing, junior catagory. One of the early season races was on a portion of the Milwaukee national championship course. In that race was 2 future Olympic gold medalists, a silver medalist, multiple state and national champions and a future Tour de France rider. Amazing when I think of it

Not sure, but that jersey really stands out. The only positive ID I have in that bunch is the guy picking his nose. Thats Tom Peck from Iowa. He had a degree in english and frequently corrected our speech.

Another (it's a series) from the same time, following the same vein (racing). This one had the delightful voice of Jean Shepherd; you might recognize it as the narrator of "A Christmas Story". Thanks for the share Big ChainRing.
