As I have mentioned on several occasions I wear $15 rugby shorts from Scheels sports stores. And I wear semi-free wicking T-shirts I mainly get from rides my cycling club gives out on rides or when I sag. Yes very inexpensive, but amazingly enough the wheels still turn.

The cheap wicking T-shirts would work fine for me but A; I would really miss the rear pocket in which I carry my phone, an energy bar and a couple of bucks. B: It would probably keep people from believing I am pro racer out on a slow training ride.

I don't think any of the major cycling apparel brands engage any of these tactics in their consumer marketing.
they all serve as apparel sponsor to various world tour teams and that's about the extent of the "celebrity'

Yes, as far as celebrities not being endorsed in cycling, I would agree with you. It's the bigger athletic multinational corporations that push celebrities that I prefer to avoid.

I agree. I wear and use lots of products whose CEO's have different beliefs than me and ideologies that I do not agree with. If they make a product I like I wear it. Nike is a great example for me on who I don't agree with. However, I do like their shoes.

Aerotech, Twin Six, Voler, Primal, Pearl Izumi. Also, Bontrager, which is the house brand for Trek. Some of their lower end lines like the Solstice Jersey are good quality and decent price, even better if you can get it on sale, which happens often.

Biking apparel with some big name brand company or racer on in is no different than foot ball clothes here in Nebraska. If it has a big red N on a Tee-shirt it cost twice as much. OTOH I would be willing to bet a lot that they are made out of the same material that a no name Tee-shirt is made out of.

Actually and logically if there is a name brand on say a Tee-shirt, it should be cheaper because of advertising for that company!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought two kits from Ornot this year. Both are House jersey and House bibs, different colors. I also bought one of their vests. Absolutely love their stuff. Top quality fabrics and zippers, simple designs with no unnecessary crap, race-like cut with modern longer sleeves, understated graphics, no logos, good color selection (all of which work together), made in the USA. Super comfortable, especially in hot weather. Not particularly cheap but good value for what you're getting.

I never understood the need for cycling specific clothes. I wear what I wear in the gym. My compression shorts make better cycling shorts than cycle shorts.

For one thing, it’s nice to have pockets so you can easily access your camera in a hurry.


And a pad is nice when your climbing a 15 mile, unpaved mountain pass on a fully loaded bike. A full zip jersey is great to beat 90+ degree heat. But to each his own.

My third pair of theblackbibs.com Black Bibs Plus are out for delivery today. For the price I think they are outstanding - that's why the third pair are being delivered. Now I can toss some older shorts that are well past their prime.

They're comfortable, fit well, and the chamois is very good. I don't know what else you might get by spending 2 or 3 times the $72 price, and I'll likely not find out. I've put close to 1000 miles on the first two pair and you can't tell them from new. They are washed after each ride using Tide Sport laundry detergent and air dried. They will last longer in a rotation of 3 than 2, so I ordered another pair.

UPDATE: The only thing I would add to these bibs would be a mesh side pocket. Not essential, but it does seem like it would be useful.

I just took my own advice and ordered two pair of the regular Black Bibs. Great value for $40 each.

Got a size large The Gray Bibs Plus. Haze grey and underway. Very comfortable. Better than my low end Castelli, my only other bib. Now I need The Black Bib.

The Ornot stuff seems nice but their website says they are "Climate Neutral." That may not suit OP.

Climate neutral, taking better care of our planet is fine with me, and I really like the look of their Mission shorts.
