1996 Colnago Tecnos
Thinking of selling this baby.
I have three and this is the one I use least, so I've decided to let this one go.
Will likely replace the wheels with some Mavic M3 rims on Chorus hubs, to play extra nicely with the 11S Chorus that's on it.
Will more than likely also replace the seat with a San Marco Rolls (because I like the Antares )
Bike is basically in mint condition, chrome is flawless, two tiny chips on the top tube, otherwise paint is flawless as well.
Difficulty.........
No Ebay, no shipping, no PayPal.
Basically looking for a local (to me that is the Netherlands)pickup/sale.
Wondering what would be a realistic price to hold out for, considering that I had inquiries from people in Germany and France when I put a Nuovo Mexico up for sale a few weeks ago.

Holy Christ, that is a beautiful bike. I would say $1800 to $2200 USD easily. I would start at $2500 USD depending on what you have into it. But definitely shoot high. Especially since you don't see that color in any bike too often and someone (like myself) who would be drawn to a color like that would pay a bit of a premium for it.

1000 - 1200$ USD would be a reasonable, if perhaps optimistic, expectation given the narrow parameters of how you wantto sell it

OP,
I think Colnagos have some cache but need to be all original to get top dollar, I would be nearer to the valuation of DMC707.
Best, Ben

You'll regret selling this. I'd like to know what your other two bikes are.
I have a similar Colnago "Competition" (Columbus Crystal tubing) w/Chorus 10 speed and Zondas, also "one of three" of my road bikes. The other two are carbon and titanium. I'd suggest you keep it.
As a seller, you'll never get the value out of it; alternatively, someone will get an excrutiatingly nice bike for much less than what it'd cost to build or buy a similar bike new.

Tecnos
is a niche frame with an audience.
the ranges mentioned are all legitimate.
if you do not ask, you won’t get.

I have two other Tecnos, one a '95 in yellow and another '96 in candy cane colors.
The one I'm selling is the one out of the three I use least, the other '96 is probably next on the chopping block
I also have a Crystal and it's a very different ride to the Tecnos

I recently acquired a few more bikes so I've had to cull a few.

Fair enough, if you've got two others in the stable! For value, I'd say ask for 1400-1600euro and consider lower offers. The market may be quite small, though it's getting better with COVID restrictions. That groupset is worth a lot... you may consider parting the bike out, I think you may make more that way, but it's more work for you.

More than willing to slap some old 9 speed on there and call it vintage though

So maybe frameset only and part out will bring you a higher number.

Now you've got me genuinely curious: how different is the Tecnos to the Crystal? Are they set up very similar otherwise? I'd love to know more. (Mine's a '97 frame.)

I still have a couple of 9 speed Chorus groupsets stashed away somewhere that I'm never going to use again.

9 speed Chorus would be more era appropriate for that frameset for a top dollar sale ---- the cassette should roll right onto the freehub you have too
But yes -- i also recall when the vast majority of high end bikes were sold as framesets only . I remember the wonder when i saw a guy outfit a Bi-Titan with a 600 Shimano tri color groupset. It made perfect sense to him. HE hated Campagnolo shifting but loved the Colnago frameset, ---
Who am i to argue with personal preference -- and it didnt seem to be a money issue as that frameset back then was likely 2500 bucks in 1995

So this is what it looks like now.
Built a set of Chorus with Open Pro rims for it because I thought the M3 rims looked out of place.
Put one of those horrible anatomical 3ttt handlebars on it, 3ttt stem and Kalloi seat post, Selle San Marco Hoskar Colnago Art Decor saddle.
Full 9S Chorus

you had a busy weekend!
bike truly looks “badass” now! Gorgeous with the silver components.
Dont get me wrong, the bike was hot before, but the polished Campy really plays well with the chrome highlights on your frameset

Found out this morning that I forgot all about the bike and left it outside.
How it's still here after two days I'll never understand

So this was ripped out of my hands this morning.
Frameset only for the equivalent of around $1000.
Of course the guy wants to build it up with a more modern Campy groupset, say a pre 2015 11S Athena or Chorus if he can get his hands on one of those...

Just didn't have the heart to tell him that was the way it looked just a couple of days earlier.
I think he prefers more silvery bits on there so I'm pretty sure he's leaning towards Athena anyway.

Nice bike! I got one from 95 /96
Is there any way to determine the year through the serial on the rear dropout?

The '95 still has the older style seat post lug.
There is no system to the serial numbers as far as I know, but you can email Colnago with the serial number and they will usually be able to tell you the model, year and factory paint.
