set it up a little bit shorter and higher with the hoods rotated up more than you would on a road bike since the hoods position is the primary race position. Your back and core will take a beating and be under way more stress than you would be on the road and your form will get a bit sloppy as you get tired and brain gets fried. Aero matters less, wider bars is helpful, a hair lower saddle makes hovering a bit easier over bumps

Mine is set up like a road bike - Although it has a long top tube/short stem like a mountain bike. I have the bars fairly low as that puts my center of gravity lower (and a lot lower than a mountain bike even though the bike is taller). When racing, I spend a fair amount of time in the drops - for Aero and handling advantages - although I don't think I ever go fast enough in CX for Aero to make any difference. I'm really only on the hoods if I'm in a recovery section and want to open up my chest/lungs. But there isn't much chance for recovery in a CX race.

By far the most important thing is that you are in a position that is comfortable for you in technical sections. What works for me may not work for you.

I don't think there's a right/wrong answer here. I run basically the same setup on road and CX.
I spend more time riding in the drops on road and more time on the hoods during CX racing/training. I've always felt more comfortable from a handling perspective on the hoods.
