Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes, why? Well, mine are actually Volkswagens equivalent (made by Thule for VW)

I think the aero bars are on special application (vehicle specific) sets, like for VW, Audi, SAAB, etc.

AMG Drivers are better than Toyota's... lol
The point I was trying to make is... It's a rack.. how good of a driver are you to be able to take advantage of that aero bar on your roof with a fin [your bike] about 55 cm above your roof...
IF you're getting it because it's bling... by all means go for it...
BUT if you're thinking it'll save you gas or keep your grounded as you take a 60 mph turn because you're "aero" now... well... sorry... you're going to have to do some aerodynamic calculations/experiments to back it up...

Those bars are nowhere on the Thule USA website, so I'm going to guess that they aren't available here.

funny thing is that i am a good driver, raced karts, and race cars....and yea....i dont mind spending more $$ to get a high quality product.....the Italian hand made furniture over the machine made Asian furniture....AL vs Steel...aero vs square....better euro fork mount bike carrier racks in Europe then the USA counterparts....and yes i do like gadgets

not to mention $100 more on a product that will last a life time and carry btwn $5k-$30k worth of bikes at a time...

finny thing is i could do the aero calculations if i wanted to....

save $$ on gas....lets just say i burn lots of gas as it is....

im number 48, lets see if some one here can guess who the guy on the left of me....also the person behind me is another professional driver...both good friends of mine

not racing semi/professionally right now b\c im concentrating on my engineering career

AE,
If you look closely at what I wrote, my implications were that even Michael Andretti or even Schumacher couldn't reduce the drag while taking advantage of that "aero" bar; drag WILL occur with having a FIN [ie. your bikes] on the roof...
So you can calculate them eh? [I'm an engineering student too ^^]
Since my field [materials] doesn't really deal with physical or aerospatial models...
Could you please tell me what formulae you would use to calculate drag?
Seriously, because I'd like to know how much drag I create as a rider...
I'm assuming velocity and mass dependent?

Thanks man,
-Peter

the point is i dont want them b\c they produce less drag, but b\c they make less noise, look cool, engineering bling, form and function, something special....

Something to keep in mind; it is difficult to find attachments for them in North America. The only bike carriers I could find that mount directly to mine were through the dealer. The local Thule rep couldn't get me the adapters used to mount the standard carriers to the European bars. Saab was willing to sell me the adapters though (at about $40 each).
