80 mph through a 30 mph curve is bound to cause problems.

But yeah, $100-200 machines don't make any sense, unless you're looking for 2-3 years worth of crappy coffee.

I missed out when a local roaster/shop closed its doors. They had a small Simonelli Oscar that they used for a backup when their regular machine was being serviced and the owner always praised it's output. Alas, it disappeared before I got to make a bid on it. I wanted it because it had a reasonably small footprint and it was professionally serviced on a regular basis.

I had a cool STP jacket when I was a kid. I won it racing Pinewood Derby.

After a little research I just learned that the pinball machines I grew up with in New Orleans were called "bingo" pinball machines, because the numbered card on the back screen looked like a bingo card. Here is a picture of one:
Bingo Pinball.jpg
If you didn't get three in a line either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, you could pay an unspecified amount to perhaps get a new screen that had a pattern into which the ball placements you had achieved would fit for a win. You just kept putting in more money until you were or were not awarded a new screen. Same for higher odds and extra balls. Obviously no one would throw money away like that if there were not the chance of a big payoff for finally winning.
I suspect the popularity of the bingo machine in New Orleans was due to it being the best choice for gambling. There was a lot of that in the city when I was a kid.

We have pinball machine. The kids used to play it a lot, now it gets used as a storage device.

It was all about “body English”, hitting the machine from side to side to move the ball where you needed it to be without tripping the mercury switch that ended the game.
And there were substitute screens that could be slid into position over the hole numbers your balls were in to get a winning pattern. Obtaining the screens was a random function of depositing more money which could also be used to obtain extra balls and/or drive up the odds. It was common for a game to take an hour as maybe $50 or more was fed into the machine to prolong the opportunity to win and increase prize money. I have seen guys win $5-600 with 20 people standing around them, cheering them on, and bringing them drinks. It was a delicious form of entertainment.

I remember that growing up when you played pinball, if you got a good enough score you could win a "free game" or two, but when I visited my family in Chicago you could only win an "extra ball" because a "free game" was still considered gambling and banned...that would have been the mid-1970's.

I'm sure you all have put together that my head is not exactly the happiest place on Earth. However, last night set a new low even for me: a nightmare within a nightmare, Inception-style.
Today sucks, and I'm not even working.

I just checked. In the ATL we have GB v CAR and J-E-T-S v NO
I am on BF and considering a nap. @RPK79 and @WhyFi are rarely present here on the weekends. Parenting stuff or vibrant social life - you decide.
Cold and rainy here today. A lousy 46A so no riding.
Church Christmas party tonight so I have chili in the crockpot for a quick and easy meal.
Sore in my neck and traps from yesterday's coolish ride. The dog is keeping me warm on the couch.
45 years ago this week Mrs. jones by Billy Paul was #1 according to the Casey Kasem top 40 show on Sirius XM ch7 yesterday. @rjones28 do you have a groovy thing going on with Mrs rjones28?

And honest to goodness arcade pinball machine? If so, which one?
I used to play a lot of pinball. One of the biggest disappoints in my life came one night while playing the Terminator 2 Judgment Day machine. After the first ball (plus a couple of extra balls), my score was close to 999,999,999, which is as high as the score field goes. Basically, the only way I would not "turn over" the game were if the next two balls went down the middle with almost no scoring. That is exactly what happened. I still wonder what the machine does when 999,999,999 is surpassed. Sometimes I think about buying one and trying to find out.
