FD-M651 - what does "load strength" do?

Heya,

I am using an older FD-M651 which has a "load strength" setting, which can be adjusted with a flat head screwdriver. What does this do? Manual by Shimano
Any explanation is greatly appreciated.

All the best!
P!

It's a customizable trade off between light action, and enough return spring force to shift crisply. If you're someone that helps by easing up on the pedals to shift, then the light action is for you. OTOH it may not shift unless you do lighten up to reduce chain tension. so the harder option may be better.

I wish I had that adjustment on my Microshift FD, the return spring is massively strong, I can't use a gripshift because of it, and even a trigger shifter is a struggle. Shimano FDs are better but linkage is different so won't fit on my FD adaptor.
