Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

March and April weather is the worst in my opinion; a cycle of a few warm beautiful days followed by horrendous weather from the crappiest stuff the Nature ***** can throw out.
Sometimes, an extended period (by our standards) off of the bike can make it tough for me to get back on, too, but it's almost always a good idea in hindsight.

The other thing that I don't like about the weather this time of year is the handwringing over apparel choices for these 'tweener temps. Tights? Knickers? Jacket or jersey and vest?! I think that that just adds another mental hurdle to getting out, sometimes.

Always been big on recovery myself and it helps if it’s enforced.

I hate the latter part the most and always end up either under or overdressed.

Shockingly, I've done pretty well in that regard so far this year. For my last ride, I really thought that my knickers would be the best bet, but they were dirty, so I grudgingly wore regular ol' bib shorts, for the first time this year. It turned out to be the right call... other than the feeling of my leg hairs in the breeze. Yeah, time to shave.

I hear ya - I bet that, like me, you've had some studs/no studs quandaries in VA lately, eh?

Still haven't decided which ride to do. One club is doing a ride I don't care for and it looks like only 5 riders are coming. The other club has 5 rides on schedule but no way to tell who is coming because nobody uses the web roll call thing. Some (3) friends are starting at 9:30 but arrogant guy is going to be there. I hear he has tried to make himself more tolerable after he got a talking to. Time to decide is very near.

March is the worst in your part of the world. September is our March. We are so ready to be done with the heat and humidity, and September just ramps it up. In October we see some relief.

Took Mom to get her first shot yesterday, but didn't realize the Walmart that we got the appointment at was one that some guy set a fire in the other day! We came to find out that all the doses were taken to another Walmart, so she got her jab eventually.

I also had a 3:10 appointment to get minivan #1 registered again. I get there at 3:08 and there's a big line for people with appointments. After the second person was allowed in, I did some calculations and it looked like an hour and a half wait. Uh no, I didn't bring any water or snacks for this ****.

Get home and try to get a first-thing-in-the-morning appointment some other day, the website is not working, so I call and after 20 minutes wait come to find out they can't set appointments either because "the system is down".

OH well, minivan #1 needs control arms up front anyway, guess I probably shouldn't be driving it all over the desert with wandering steering, even though I've had plenty of practice driving cars like that.

That was me yesterday. I'd just been on a round of errands for which I was overdressed in a nice warm jacket, so I went with long sleeve jersey, bibs and gillet vest having decided AGAINST base layer and leg warmers. Turns out that even that would have been a little skimpy and I should have worn tights and a jacket!

And I'm only making that problem worse for myself!

Yesterday I ended up taking the Bianchi ("Plastic Fantastic") because 1) it was closest to the door, 2) the Cannondale ("Jackhammer") is more of a sunny, warm day bike, and 3) It had been on the trainer and I wanted to let it run free

Yes, I name my bikes. Sue me. All I can think of now is the exchange in GOT -

The Hound: Of course you named your sword.
Arya: Lots of people name their swords.
The Hounds: Lots of c***s.

Still thinking of a name for the Circuit, but I'll have to build it and ride it before I make a final decision. I'm leaning toward "Short Circuit", since it's a smaller size than I'm used to riding....

I usually just use a pop culture reference to their color. Blue Thunder, Red Rocker, Yellow Rose of Texas, Orange Crush, Mean Joe Greene, Purple People Eater, Grey Ghost, Black Death, Silver Streak...

Hmm, only one decent hit comes back with a search for "pink" on the local CL, but unfortunately it's a tad small.

There was another Schwinn Circuit, up in Sacramento, that was pink. But I'm almost certain it was candyapple red like mine originally, and had just spent too many years outside in the sun. I can only imagine the state of the rubber on the brake hoods - mine are ever-so-slightly sticky when wet.
