Last year I road the Houston-Austin MS150 with a local cycling club. One of the requirements to ride with the club is to take a certified safety course, so I did. I would call it "how to be a professional Fred" course. One of the field exercises was teaching us how to look back while keeping your bike straight.
I failed this topic miserably. I practically did a U-turn when I looked back, so I watched one of the other students who was really good. It was a young lady and her bike did not waiver while she turned her head like the girl in "The Exorcist".
I think she was really good at this because of her firm, lythe, limber tanned body...
What were we talking about? mirrors?

I grew tired of looking at my arm in my old mirror so I am now using a Zefal Spin Handlebar mirror:

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
+1. Easy 15 mph pace with a 10 mph wind gets you 25 mph wind noise -- and if you think that's still quiet, go out with a friend in that kind of wind and see how far apart you can get before you have to yell to talk to each other.
At best, what you'd hear from an angry redneck is, "... road, you f......!!"

You have to be careful of Ninja Rednecks.
I use a handlebar mirror. I hate being without it. It's much nicer being able to casually glance at it to see what's going on behind you. Especially useful in high traffic areas for changing lanes. Out in the country on looooong open roads, not as much.

Oh good, thank you . . . . now I won't bother to work my way backwards.
Oh and I got the pun.

Wish I had a mirror on my ride this past Saturday. An older Blazer or Bronco with four young men pulled up just off to my left. I was riding a section of road that has a wide shoulder and I was a foot inside the line. One of the passengers from the back of the vehicle leaned out the window and yelled at the top of his lungs. I about came out of my skin. Never have I had this happen. A split second later as they were pulling away all I saw of him was longer black hair trying to get back into the vehicle. I tried to catch the car but with a speed limit of 40mph and fighting a headwind I was going to blow up. I am happy I didn't wreck.
