Anyone mention 23 Days in July (book)? It's a day by day chronicle of the 2004 tour, very "lance based" for better or worse. Regardless of whether or not you want to read about Lance, I learned a lot about the inner working of the Tour.

The Six-Day Bicycle Races was/is really good.

I like Road to Roubaix but think they ruined it with the sappy-overplayed background music. Ugh. Too much cheesy motion-typography in Overcoming for me as well, it's still good though overall.
Cheers!

Sorry. Gotta' throw the flag here. 'Pinultimate'? Google that one. Maybe you were looking for 'ultimate' but probably not 'penultimate'. Unless you were going for something like 'Botto's opinions are penultimate only to P-Cad'.

My car dealership gave me a loaner while mine is in the shop, and when people ask if I bought a new car, I tell them "It's a loaner, Dotty. A rebel."

don't think Louis Malle's "Vive le Tour" documentary has been mentioned yet
my other favorite bike film would be Pepe Danquart's "Hell on Wheels"
as far as books - French Revolutions was a good & fun read Paris-Roubaix: A Journey Through Hell is great but that is more of a coffee table read

'Ther Rider' is my favorite cycling book so far. Tim Krabbe makes surreal poetry out of a grueling one-day race.

I too thought "Heft on Wheels" was an amusing read, no, not the best piece of literature I have ever read, but amusing. The clyde community could especially relate.
