The 3rd Annual Bourbon and Tobacco Tour

Given the prevailing cycling climate, I thought it would be prudent to ask the folks that are (or were) planning to travel to western Kentucky what they think would be the best way forward.

It will be disappointing to delay it, and more so to cancel it entirely, but I want everyone that comes to the ride to have a good time. Those that have ridden it in the past have enjoyed it, and I want to continue that going forward.

I'm suggesting May 16-17, since the SOTR ride for that weekend has been cancelled.

Please let me know what you think. For those that would prefer a different weekend, please post your suggestions in this thread.

Thank you.

As someone who needs to be a little more careful with stuff like this; I'm for sure out this month. Things would have take a drastic turn for the better for me to travel anywhere prior to June 1st.

As much as I would like to attend. I really don't expect things will be close to normal by mid-May. I hope I'm wrong, but we won't know until the date is very close upon us.

My vote, unfortunately, is to cancel for 2020.
1-This COVID-19 thing is fairly new.
2-Best case scenario in the US is likely 100,000 deaths, at a minimum.
3-The economic impact is just beginning.
4-The logistical impact is nowhere near to top of it's curve.
5-The point at which effective and widely available treatments meet with effective preventive measures is at least 2 months off.
6-Wave 2 is coming.
7-A vaccine, even with every process accelerated, is months off.
8-We've not had this before, period. I'm not making too many plans before August.

Concur. Statistics today are showing Italy at its 'current' fatality rate, would lose 315,000 of its population.

The world is five months in with CV19 and no vaccine.

Stay well, all.

Yeah, I’m bummed to miss this ride this year and can’t predict when it’ll be safe to travel, much less ride in a group. I’m inclined to say postpone until 2021.

I really really hope the worst of this will be past by August, so I would say make a tentative reschedule to say, September and you’ll probably know by June or July how realistic that time frame will look. May for sure is a no go.

Group rides in the Time of Cholera

Following the banning of any riding group or solo in Italy, France, and Spain, I’m only riding solo. In Oklahoma (City) bicyclists can still catch some ill will, and with the bars, and public golf courses shut down, some may not like groups of cyclists having a good time, when they can’t. Not preaching, just would hate it if we couldn’t ride at all.

It seems most people are not planning to ride in April, so I'll delay the ride. I don't yet have a new date but I'm still considering the mid-May weekend, depending on how things unfold over the next few weeks.

On the plus side, that will give me time to work on and maybe finish up the Pinarello build.

Ride safely out there.

What's up with golf courses shutting down? Some states call them open for being an essential business (funny in itself!), yet many are forced closed. Same situation for State forest and parks. I think we all know by now, social distancing, except may be for mating animals. ;"/

They closed them, yet the experts in our govt sez 'to get outside for healthy fitness and fresh air'. Contradicting azzhats herding the sheeple. Dare them to arrest me, I paid for both and I'm using them -nor is there martial law. Riding, yippee yeah

Gov't agencies, private companies, sports organizations, festivals, etc. across the country are cancelling events through mid late May already. The safe bet is to punt entirely, or put it on hold til we have a better idea how long this virus will be changing everything.

People aren't taking it seriously and are crowding parks and trails to the point that they aren't safe. This isn't Gov't vs people, it's a species wide effort to survive a virus.Brain science it isn't.

No doubt in major cities or dense metro areas but nothing close of 'over crowding' to 80% of parks. Matter of fact, even on the most glorious days of weather, include holidays, thousands of public parks are used by a miniscule fraction of the population.

Let's all be in our sick cages and this neutronbomb jobbie will be over in only a hundred years.

Living in Virginia, I'm under order for the next 10 weeks. Can get food, medicine, and do essential shopping, and while going outside to exercise is permitted, pretty sure driving across 2 states to do so would cause me to fall afoul of the restrictions. 2021 is looking like the year of the 81-speed.

“I don’t think shelter in place really works for one locality,” Cuomo said on March 17, three days before he reversed course and issued a stay-at-home order for the state.
