I see " ascherer" riding in NYC's pictures. Amazing to see the streets that empty. Localy NC has been shut down for almost a month but house construction is going full blast as this house is about 1/2 mile from my apartment. Been riding every other day on short rides so now there is no pain after the ride. At 79 no pain after doing anything is a good feeling.

Schaar's Bluff Ride - Social Distance Fail
Oh, the irony!
During these strange times, people are urged to stay home, or if they do go out, stay away from other people. So where does EVERYBODY go? The nearest MUP, of course. The trails are more crowded now than I've ever seen them. It was hard to set up a photo without somebody else in-frame. When passing folks coming the other way, I would have had to go off the trail to maintain six feet of "Social Distancing". I tried not to think about that.
Here's one of the shots I took with nobody else in-frame:
I have a few more, but now that I am working from home, I find I don't have the time to process them. When work is done for the day, I have to get out of this house! I'll drop a few into some other threads as I get to them.

I'm riding every other day myself at this point, at 69yo, I want no early season setbacks. But good weather this week may get me out more.
Yard work increasing exponentially.

Short ride around town today on the Super. This the first real ride on my new built high flange wheels. First couple of rides had the worst squeal Ive ever experienced - the kind where people would stop what theyre doing and stare. Anyway, put some serious toe in on the brakes and problem gone. This is outside one of the (empty) dorms at UVA. Ive ridden by here a hundred times and never noticed it. Pump works and a nice selection of tools. It pleased me. Ive had a rough stretch recently with mechanicals and fortunately this was just an informational stop.

I have had the same problem on our local bike trail. Frustratingly hard to keep away from people. Today I opted for staying mostly on the roads.

Rode the Ron Cooper to Marblehead this evening. Beautiful weather! I love that town and the smell of the sea.

Got a little spooked by some weather radar and raced a storm home tonight. Turns out I beat it by about an hour and a half

Thanks for sharing. I've had the pleasure of visiting your wonderful home state on several occasions. Port Townsend and Issaquah are both home to some reputable kayak builders/retailers. Back in '98 while on vacation, it was top on our bucket list that we hit the town of Roslyn, WA (aka Cicely, AK) on our way back home to Canada so that I could pay my respects to the defunct set of Northern Exposure. I was a die hard fan of the 90s hit show.

As always - glad to post this thread!
Such a niiice day.
Time to bump the mileage from 25-30 mi range up to 50. The 48/34 crankset on the Merckx Corsa Extra SLX makes it great for hills. The full tubeset in this 61cm size with century geometry ( I believe) is so smooth. VeloFlex 25mm Roubaix tubulars are the icing.
Starting from home.
Ill jump past Issaquah pics on outbound leg, so heres Lake Sammamish looking north
and what I found at Marymoor Park. I expected to be going around the Lake. But no through traffic.
So a brief stop to keep me smilin is in order.
Next stop will call for better nourishment but first another shot of Lake Samm. Nice to have a private pier with a kids slide.
Take-out only. The french frys were fresh hot, not greasy, skins on.
A vintage bus for a 50s drive-up themed restaurant.
Then just the ride home.
Fat fingers...dont drop the Dick Tracy device

My longest COVID ride to date yesterday, 87 miles riding in the Snoqualmie Valley east of Seattle.
To minimize contact with humans, I pack plenty of food and water, enough for several trailside picnics during the day.

I stopped and enjoyed second breakfast at the deserted Seattle Watershed Visitors Center located on the bluff overlooking the lake.

I get on the Iron Horse Trail and head to the upper reaches of the Snoqualmie Valley. Last year, the State re-named this trail the Palouse to Cascades Trail which seems stupid to me. Its the 3rd time theyve done this (previously it was the John Wayne Pioneer Trail) so I will continue to call it the Iron Horse Trail. Anyways, there very few trail users out and it was very quiet.

I stopped and had brunch at the same sunny spot I used the other day for my picnic so I am recycling a picture from that time.

I retraced my route back down the trail then took the Snoqualmie Valley Trail to the town of Snoqualmie.

Theres a Trail closure for repairs from just before Fall City to to the town of Carnation so I rode SR 202 down to Fall City. Traffic wasnt too bad but its a relief to turn off that high speed road onto the River Road in the lower Snoqualmie Valley. Here the quiet country road winds its way by fields lazy cows, horses, flowers, and crops. It is a very popular road for cyclists but I saw very few people out today.

When I got close to the town of Carnation I took the catch trail along side the Tolt River to rejoin the Snoqualmie Valley Trail.

I stopped at a small bridge just outside Duvall to wait for a walker to clear the bridge. It took a moment as someone had decorated it with prayer flags. I didnt mind the wait..
Prayer Flags in Duvall by Matthew Pendergast, on Flickr
I ate the lunch I had packed in the riverfront park outside of the town of Duvall. For the ride back, I rode the Snoqualmie Valley Trail as far as the closure signs then took a side road out to SR 203. The road is fairly busy, the shoulder not very wide so I was grateful to get off when Neil Road presents itself. It is a another one of those gems that is wonderfully scenic and quiet much like the River Road on the other side of the Snoqualmie River. I follow this road to Fall City.

I have to get back onto SR 202 for a little bit until I can get onto quieter roads. I take one of these (356th) up to the Snoqualmie Valley Trail. The detour is complete, Now I take the trail the rest of the way home.

northbend, Matt, thanks for that excellent ride report and beautiful, scenic photos. That “Iron Horse Trail” looks like a lot of fun.
I’ve only been for a handful of rides the past couple weeks, and the popular cycling roads near me seems just as crowded with cyclists as ever. Lots if people out with their kids or taking advantage of “working” from home. I even passed a tight group of 8 cyclists (all proudly decked out in Cal Bears team kit) on yesterday’s ride.
