Frames and Framebuilding (1970-1979) 21 More American Framebuilders
In paragraph 2, there is reference to two previous articles portraying American framebuilders, the first of which was long overdue even for the time.
That Nov 1975 article is here: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...-builders.html
The Aug 1976 article is specific to tandems and will be posted to C&V later today.

Doug Fattic was one of the 21 framebuilders mentioned in this article. He posts on C&V occasionally. Maybe we'll hear from him.

In 1985 Bicycling magazine did a an article on only 4 builders titled "The World's Most Beautiful Bicycles". They even had a 2 page color picture spread on one of my custom bicycles. I didn't get any immediate business from that article either. The other 3 builders were Peter Weigle, Tom Kellogg and Tom Ritchey. I do remember it raised my profile so that I could go into a pro bike shop located almost anywhere in the US and it was likely someone would recognize my name. Eventually even though my business remained the same I drifted back into obscurity until online web forums about learning to build bicycle frames because popular again.

Hugh Enochs (La Honda, CA.) had been active on the CR list up until a few years ago, now I realize I have not seen his name attached to a post in some time.Anybody know about his status? I think Jim Merz is now located in the La Honda vicinity and he seems to post pretty often.
Corrections: Jim Merz is apparently in Big Sur, so not exactly a neighbor of La Honda, but Jim is active on the CR list just read his addy in today's digest. Also for grins note the advert for "Tire Life" by Jevelot on p.70 of the scans above: this is/was Hugh Enoch's company and probably best-known product, a brush-on latex emulsion for sidewalls and sew-ups rim tape. Maybe Tire Life is still available...?
