Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Couple of things worked against Syracuse 70.3 (other than the general decline in triathlon); first the bike course is pretty hilly, I hear triathletes hate that, second it was scheduled for Father's Day weekend, many participants and local residents didn't like that.

But, WTC bought a popular triathlon in the region, Musselman in Geneva, last year. So, Central New York gets to have a triathlon again.

While you can compete (and do fairly well) on much lesser equipment (as I did for years), the gear-obsessive culture creates the impression that you're in for $10k or more to just do your local sprint. Then you see that you can roll out of bed and drive to a 5k/ 10k/ marathon/ CrossFit gym/ whatever, and you don't even have to pretend to learn how to swim.
Our shop was the official bike shop of Syracuse 70.3 for many years. I worked our race weekend store once. OMG, those people are like locust. We would make a special X-Labs buy just for that weekend and had little inventory to bring back to the shop.

The hilly thing is a fact (for the majority, the unwashed masses, the unserious).

But your post reveals the problem: to the normal person, Ironman grew so large that it's synonymous with triathlon. Central New York had a ton of smaller and shorter triathlons, but to the Ironman crowd and the public at large, those don't count.

I don't even know what it means. I like the idea, but it doesn't matter in practice.

On the subject of drink, I have recently been grating Belizean full fat cacao into my vanilla protein smoothies, for a much improved flavor

I wouldn't bother with masking the noise with lube. Check the spoke tension. While you're at it, check the rim for imminent spoke hole failure. While you're there look at the nipples for cracks. Next look at the hubs and the j-bend in the spokes.

Or turn up your Walkman and ride them until something breaks.

I wish there were more options for all-carbon wheels like the Trispoke. Spoke tension gives me the willies.

I know the "little" races. Lots of folks around here prefer sprint and intermediate distances. There's even a popular event in Cazenovistan that also has two aquabike distances .

A close friend tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday, and today he lost taste/smell.

We did a few rides together last week, and had beers after(outside). I'm not freaking out, but I'm self-quarantining until next Friday..

Hope it passes you by.

Had a non-socially distanced ride with six guys today, for the first time since March. Hope we’re all clean.

Either ignore the noise or wire-tie and solder those puppies.
