Today was my riding buddy’s 63rd birthday (yes, born on the 4th of July), so naturally we needed to do a 63-mile ride. Some of it involved dirt.

That's a really cool picture/place, Zukhan. Like some kind of strange modern day druid monument.

On the way back home I rode in the boat launching line...the boat launch dick told me that I couldn’t ride there...
I asked why...he said it wasn’t allowed...it was “fer boat’n...“

Hercules waterfront, bay trail. Lots of development around a planned transit center.

Bike repair station with what looks like a vending machine for repair parts.

Those are Compass/RH 700 x 38mm Barlow Pass. I'm running them tubeless. Very smooth!

Two tunnels

An old railway track which as been paved by a cycling charity. There are two tunnels, one of which is over a mile long. It's cool but slightly spooky after a while. I get a bit worried someone will lock the gates at the other end.

Great time to explore college campuses. This is Lewis & Clark College in Portland. I Think I
rode by one other person. These are the terraced gardens of the original Lloyd Frank estate, and if you zoom in, you can see that it all points toward Mt Hood. Really beautiful. Would have probably had better visibility if it weren’t July 5th.

Near perfect riding condition today in the high Rockies about 70 with high pressure so a bit more air at high altitude. So I finally to ride up to the top of Beaver Creek road in Pike National Forrest about 10miles each way from Fairplay a pretty tough ride but nice ride one I can only really make in a afternoon when condition are nearly perfect.

The last mile or so is pretty much a ten story stair case to walk up but worth it.
To get above the tree line few for several minutes of open silence .

Love those repair stands. There's an outdoor one out here in Los Gatos, CA with basic tools attached on near Vasona lake park that I have actually had to use once.

The bike coalition had gotten some installed along the Emeryville/Berkeley trail. I used it once when I had a flat near one. Next time out it had all the tools stolen and the pump vandalized. This one is indoors so it will probably only be available certain hours.
