DIY Frame pack
Practiced my sewing during lockdown by making this frame pack for my '72 Raleigh Super Course. Made from Cordura Classic fabric. It attaches to the frame with Velcro One-Wrap laced through webbing sewn around the perimeter. It nicely holds my tool kit, spare tubes, and other various sundries.

Great design, good job. Do you make those for others who might use their bike for touring--bet you could sell a good many! Do things move around on the inside, or is it "compartmentalized"?

As an amateur sewer who takes way too long to design, cut, and finish anything, there is no way that I could produce enough product to offset my beer consumption. I may do a few for birthday presents, though. I've just done one test ride with it and everything inside seems to stay in place. It has a width of only 2 1/2 inches so not much room to move around. I wasn't sure how I would organize the contents so I didn't want to commit to set compartments. I figure that I can always add them later if I want them.

In all seriousness, though, did you make a pattern? I usually scribble something down but seldom make real patterns. If you have a pattern, I'd be interested...

My pattern was basically a piece of cardboard that I cut to fit the frame. This was easy to do by first tracing using the frame, and then fine tuning the angles and lengths. This cardboard pattern was used to mark the fabric for the side panels. The 2 side panels were then joined to a narrow perimeter strip with of 2.5 inches (plus seam allowance). The challenging part was the zipper. I sewed it into an oversized piece of fabric, which I then trimmed to mirror the other side panel.

Great looking bag! Very professional looking and best of all it is custom fit and not a commercial "universal fit", which to me generally has meant it will 'universally' NOT fit anything I own without a lot of jury rigging.
