I took the quote from the Latin of John 20:17, literally "touch me not". Popular on medallions for a long time & I put it on some of my bikes.....Translation depends on its context, so in the Bible, "don't touch me", "don't cling to me", or "don't hold me back".

"Do not touch" on a bike, seems appropriate as an appeal to the almighty for both bike & rider.

I only become aware of Rezal's book and his martyrdom when middle aged, but as a life long Presbyterian, I identify with those who oppose abuses by the church/state. Don

The thing is, this is the first bike I have built up from a frameset. It needed soda-blasting and painting, and that was my first attempt at both. Then selecting the BB, headset, and all the other components to fit was a painstaking process because it was such a limited production run, and I was building the bike into something it was never intended to be. A lot of research required!

I think this was the project, along with my Raleigh DL-1 restoration, that totally hooked me into the hobby. Now I'm done for... building bicycles forever.

Hide your eyes. This is a 1985 Cannondale ST400 that I built up into a upright around town cruiser for my wife. It's a very versatile platform.

The 80+ pages of this thread have inspired me. I'm a 50 yr old rider of hybrid flat bar road bikes for fitness, but I'm going to pick up a one-owner 1974 Motobecane Grand Touring with all original components today. I'm getting a great deal (the original owner is my 74 yr old father, and it's been hanging untouched in his garage since 1981).

"Before" pics to follow once I get it back to see what I'm dealing with. I'm also kicking myself a bit because I got rid of a 1986 Centurion Sport DLX that I rode in college in the late 80's in a garage sale about 15 years ago. It was a sweet ride, but the Motobecane has sentimental value to me.

I picked up the 1974 Motobecane Grand Touring that my father bought new when we lived in Atlanta. He even kept the owner's manual!

It needed some love. All the SunTour derailleurs and DiaCompe Super Compe brakes work. The Weinmann 27" wheels roll perfectly true. I was able to save the saddle with mink oil. Today I'll replace the tires, tubes, brake pads, bar tape, hoods, and whatever else I run into. I'll post more pics as I go along...

A World Voyageur I got from a forum member a while back. Needed to be built up. I also replaced a bunch of parts but I still have the original wheels, brakes, handlebars, levers & saddle. They weren't in great shape but I'll keep them with the bike.

This '74 Motobecane Grand Touring turned into a nice little weekend project. All in all, less than $100 for all the things it needed. Lots of family history on this bike, and I still have the original owner's manual (very simplistic, for what it's worth...). I still need to adjust the angle of the saddle, and obviously sweep my garage!!

Just came in from the initial test ride of this build. Specialized Rock Hopper Comp Conversion. Fenders, North Road bars, ergo grips wrapped with cloth tape, SPD/flat pedals,1.5 inch tires, etc. Next is a rack and bag.....
Was a fun ride. Feeling very Grant Peterson-ish!

bought it from Hallets in Albuquerque as a bare frame, in 1979. Rode around London and visited Chas Roberts who said that's one of my dads bikes, but when Chas resprayed it on a visit a year later, put his decals on! Been to a lot of nice places on it.

Had a very fortunate score last evening. A very smart looking ~'81 Bob Jackson Super Tourist. Though it has a replacement front wheel and is missing the seat post binder bolt, it is in excellent shape. Well kept, as though it was ridden only for planned tours. Interesting mix of nice parts on it. Still has some old paste wax that couldn't be rubbed off in a few spots (shiny frame in great shape). Best 300 bones I've spent in a long while. My size too. Photos when the sun comes up.

BTW, was the pinstripe demarcation between the orange and chrome a factory thing? My old '75 Fuji S-10S didn't have striping there but I added some using automotive pinstripe tape. Black against the chrome, and white against my bike's candy blue color -- it really makes the transition/change 'pop' visually!

Thank you, cooperryder. That was the first frameset I've painted, and I like the result. I'm thinking about painting my Peugeot Orient Express next:



This one will get a burgundy and creme paint job with a classic U08 decal set. I think the checkered stripes will look great on either side of the creme seatpost panel.

Pics in as found condition. Needs fender care (or more likely replacement) and the FD needs a bit of tuning. Needs the usual clean and repack of all but the BB. Small efforts to get this thing in ship shape, and a good late winter project. May convert it to 700c for more tire options, and a bit more fender clearance with bigger tires. Will take my time with this one.
