Years long trip, which (old) bike is best?
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a bike suitable for a long trip across different continents (off-road). I don't want anything new, I want most of my equipment to be second-hand (or very last hand but still strong). I need a steel frame (that can be repaired anywhere) that is strong enough to hold a fair bit of wait and handle some rough tracks, to which I'd add the most relevant components.
In France, I'd probably choose a Rockrider 540, but I don't know what models are available in NZ. Any advice? Pretty please?
Thanking you all for your time and consideration, I whish you all a fantastic day!
Kindly,
El.

Here I'd probably look for a second hand Surly of some flavour. Or the other option is to try to find a mid-late 1980s mountain bike. TradeMe or Facebook marketplace would be the place to look.

Thank you very much for your answer. I did look at some surly but wasn't lucky. It seems like Trek 520 wouldn't be bad either. Let's hope I find something decent soon enough.
Thank you!!!
