TdF 2019 - Stage 20
And for a closer look at the climb:
It's going to be different with a big bunch of GC teams surviving right to the last few kms. Teams with nothing to show will try to get riders in the break. Should be hectic.
Will Alaphilippe still have the legs to leg-it up this climb?
Bardet?

I suppose the way things have worked out between yesterday and today's revised course, this gives Alaphilippe a better chance than he would've had. His only hope is to attack early and gain the time back, then maintain that time up the climb. Seems pretty far fetched, huh?

I just checked the TV schedule, and just like last Saturday, Mediacom (or is it NBCSP?) is showing friggin' NASCAR again all day !!!!! I don't get my daily 3hr TDF fix !!
They've been airing the coverage 3 times per day the rest of the week, so obviously there's some interest. You'd think they could at least run the 8:00 p.m. showing.

I've been waiting to see if NBC would actually show it on their regular network...just happened to be up and the TV was left on. I think that watching golf from the UK from 3 am to 3 pm must have been a lot.

BTW, anyone have the final time standings ? I wonder how close Alaphillipe is, and if there's any chance he'd buck tradition, and say, "it's still a race", and go for gold on Sunday ? How cool would that be !!!

Yeah, would love to see that! He could always say he was just going for the stage win.

Team Ineos wouldn't even have to do any of the work to chase him down.

This is impossible. He wouldn't try, and if he did, he wouldn't succeed. If you don't know why, you haven't watched enough bike races.

Wow. You sound like you're a real joy to live with. I was just asking an off-hand, rhetorical question, complete with big green smilie emoticon, indicating a bit of tongue-in-cheek there. And had you bothered to actually read the thread before coming down with both feet, you'd have observed that the question had already been thoroughly addressed, only 2 posts above yours, but without all the smartass tone and condescension.

While I agree JA probably wouldn’t attempt it, I do believe it’s possible by a rider such as he.

Yeah, I realized it wasn't likely to happen, but I could envision the scenario where it might happen one day, and I was wondering if Alaphillipe might be close enough to have at least been in a position to have been tempted. When I was told he was down in 5th place, I wasn't even considering it hypothetically anymore.
But, if we one day have a TDF with 2 riders (or even 3 or 4!) all within 10-15 seconds of each other, I'm thinking somebody is going to say, "the hell with tradition, this is a bike race, and it ain't over till the fat lady sings" ! And if/when that happens, the other guys will probably have no choice but to follow suit (or at least have a good excuse ! ).
