My journey so far
Five months ago I got a great carbon fiber bike from 2016, a Kestrel Legend SL. I live in SW Florida where there are no hills. I try to ride every day, leaving from my house on a 9-10 mile loop. I’ve gotten a lot stronger since I first started this exercise routine and now average 18-20 mph. So I’m really hooked on the exercise aspect. But I also like the bicycle itself and have made several improvements/upgrades along the way….new narrower carbon bars, new aero carbon wheels, new carbon seat post, and new carbon saddle. The result of these changes reduced the weight of the bike by one pound. Just love the bike and the thrill of riding it! Even though it is kind of ‘old fashioned’ with toe cage and strap pedals, rim brakes, mechanical shifters, no power meter, and tubed tires.

Nice looking machine. I can sense clipless power meter pedals (for safety as much as aeathetics) in your near future 😁
I’m using rim brakes and mechanical shifters on a 2019 bike. Nowt wrong with that.

Yes, different pedals perhaps at some point. But first I need to find appropriate shoes to fit my bunion-impaired feet. I’m currently riding in Teva sandals…..Florida life and all…..
Yeah a mate has a bunion. Not a nice experience! Think he’s getting it operated on this week actually.

No power meters in SPD though, as far as I know. Have to go Look Keo or SPD-SL for that? Not that our man Pete here has expressed any interest in a power meter... but he will

Light is right! Enjoy the ride; it is handsome. Those Lun Hypers are light; I have some too, and they’ve been amazing.
Should you ever consider power meter pedals, it might be nice to know that the Favero Assioma pedals can be swapped over to Xpedo SPD pedal bodies using pedal models like the relatively inexpensive CXR. Shimano also make SPD sandals, so you could run those, or if you found a comfy road shoe that used 3-bolt cleats, you could swap the original bodies back on and run those. Bont Cycling make shoes with wider toe boxes and they’re heat moldable, so those might be worth looking into if you’re interested.

I will say, since getting this bike and coming up to speed on all the new stuff that’s occurred in cycling in the last three decades, I am really paying attention to tire pressure more than I ever did. Those SRAM and Silca pressure calculators and the rolling resistance website have been very educational and I now make sure my front and rear wheels are in the low 70s psi before my daily ride.

I took a 1/4" drill to my old Tarmac and converted to DI2. It worked great and I eventually moved all the parts to a current frame. That was back in the day when you could get a grey market groupset for cheap. I don't know what the situtition is now. Make it yours and ride i like you stole it.

I feel like they could have make the Kestrel logo more prominent. I have a similar issue with my Wilier carbon bike, im worried people won't know the brand. Looks like they could have made the L bigger to use some of that free real estate
