You know I am in my mid sixties and doctor was amazed at how fast I am healing, strong heart, strong lungs and no diabetes, was in and out of the hospital in 24 hours. Doctor said most men my age, for the kind of surgery I had should be in a minimum of three days but because of my great health he let me out early because of this pandemic. The nostalgic novelty of riding the old Centurion wore off yesterday, and afterward my foot felt good enough, which led me to another idea: bike shoe on the left foot, sneaker on the right foot, the Look pedals on my Specialized bikes might provide enough support to keep from causing any injury if I pedal them in a sneaker, so I got out the Urban Assault Bike (Specialized TriCross Sport), put some air in the tires, put one bike shoe on, and climbed aboard it for the first time in about 2 months. Then proceeded to do 11 miles and safely returned home. This is the first time I've actually sweated after a bike ride in a couple of months, and it's a good feeling. Going to try to go back to adding a mile a day.

Interesting month

Well, I'm going to end at 225 mi for the month. Interesting, because 1) Haven't ridden anyrhing in over 10 years, 2) Never rode a road bike in my life until this month. I am a Type 2 diabetic, whose weight had gone up during the lockdown, and I decided to try and ride some to improve my health. My blood sugar has been well controlled this month, thanks I am sure to all the riding. It gets cold here before long, so I should start thinking about how to do this in cooler weather.

Thanks all for the posts, I am amazed at some of your mileages, truly amazing.

Congratulations to everyone who made their goals! I hope you felt your miles were all worth while - I'd say 'enjoyable', but Summer temps and headwinds can take some of the joy out of riding....

Since I started back on my bike in 2013, my goals have always been qualified with 'health and weather permitting.' I didn't get anywhere near my goal this month; I didn't even make the Trek July Challenge goal of 100 miles, and I really wanted that coffee mug. I went into quarantine on 7/7 and got a pacemaker on 7/10. I rode last Saturday and felt more than a little burning at the incision site, so I cut the ride short at under 6 miles. I went out to day and felt a very little burning, so i cut the ride short at a little under 11 miles. I should be good to go in a few days.

Goal for August is 200 miles.

I am at 477.2 for month as of yesterday. Tonight will knock out the last 24+ to hit 500 for Trek Challenge. The silver stem cap will look better on my Domane than the bronze one.

Hi all. I was able to ride 515.45 km (320.29 miles) in the month, despite my bike's being out of service for a week--I somehow bent the derailleur--and some issues turning up (anyone dealing with degenerative disc disease?) I got in a few hikes, though, 44km/27.3miles worth.

Also, I'm now at 226lbs/103kg. (Known high weight was 440lbs in May, 2018).

For details:
July 1. Turned 54. didn't get a chance to ride.
2: 14.75km3: (5.4km hike)
4: 24.18km
5: 27.8km
6: 18.81km
7: (5.4km hike)
8: 17.68km (and a 2.32km hike)
10: 20.86km
11: 12.71km (and 4.16km hike)
12: 27.18km
13: 22.20km
14: 19.07km
15-20. Bike out of service. Hiked 21.72km.
21: 24.62km
22: 16.72km
24: 18.07km
25: 10.91km
26: 18.13km
27: 16.9km
28: 27.16km
29: 9.20km
30: 20.02km

My blood sugar has been well controlled this month, thanks I am sure to all the riding. It gets cold here before long, so I should start thinking about how to do this in cooler weather.

Thanks all for the posts, I am amazed at some of your mileages, truly amazing.
Get a trainer for the colder weather or get some cold weather gear. I do both.

225 miles your first month back is really good! Way better than I did when I started. I'm still in the lower end with my 300-mile months.
