Rain wimp alert!
I braved the winds but about 4 miles into the ride the rain drops sent me home. Of course, on the ride home the sun came out (sigh) but didn't last long. The rain is sporadic but it's there (along with increasing winds).
I'll be hard pressed to make 5,000 miles this year due to weather.

Back in Florida...did 40 miles from the house in Tioga Town, west to Newberry, north on 41 to High Springs ( a really quaint little town ), then SE to Alachua and southwards to get back. I fear the impending time change is really going to ding my afterwork riding, so I may bring the bike to work and ride during lunchtime.

32 miles Sunday night, felt great. App sez I was riding only 13 mph, but that's gotta be a lie. Sure felt faster after overhauling the hubs. Placebo effect? Pppbbbttt!!!

No rides on Wednesday and Thursday and no free WiFi in the hotels over the weekend.

Friday - day 1 of the Coast 2 Coast ride - Total of 60 miles. Left Tampa at 7:00 AM and were taken to Ormond Beach, FL, by bus. Bikes left on Thursday night. I normally do this ride as sweep for Group 3 (18-20 mph group) but somehow, got assigned as sweep for Group 4 (15-17 mph group). Left Ormond Beach and headed for Sanford. Hurricane Matthew did some extensive damage to Ormond Beach and cleanup is still underway. Lots of piles of cut down trees along the city streets with many of them overflowing into the bike lanes. This was common for about the first 30-40 miles. We did have a very good tailwind for most of the day which helped bring the average speed of the group up a few mph.

Saturday - day 2 - Total of 80 miles. Left Sanford headed for Ridge Manor. This leg of the ride had quite a bit of rollers for just over 1,000 feet of climbing which is a lot by Florida standards. However, the hills are over with before our lunch break. Several of the ladies were having problems going up the hills and some were having issues going downhill and were squeezing their brakes for dear-life. This made it hard on me because I had to stay behind them and make sure they remained with the group. This also ended up putting distance between us and the rest of the group that we had to make up. By now, I'm wishing I could be sweeping for my regular group. The only thing that helped us out was another day of decent tailwinds. Today's ride gives bonus miles (and hill climbs) for the first three groups which makes the ride between 85 and 90 miles. Since I was with the last two groups, I missed out on my bonus miles. Got to the hotel in Ridge Manor with 78 miles so one of my buddies and I left the hotel and did two more miles to round it out to 80. I didn't come all this way to end up with 78 miles.

Sunday - day 3 - Total of 80 miles. Left Ridge Manor for Tarpon Springs. About two miles into the ride, we reached the dreaded Mondon Hill. It isn't the hardest or the tallest hill in Florida, but it is for this ride. What makes this hill difficult for a lot of riders is it's length and the fact that it stair-steps to the top. And being in the back with the ladies, made this climb even more of a challenge for me. Good thing is that everyone made it up the hill and no one had to get off and walk. At one of the rest stops groups 4 and 5 have a choice of taking a short route to the first rest stop on the Suncoast Trail or taking a longer route with more rollers. Group 5 opted for the short route and we opted for the longer route (the girls got out voted). Along the route, we passed Group 3 as they where fixing someone's flat tire or some other mechanical issue. When we arrived at the Anderson Snow Park SAG stop on the Suncoast Trail, we left in the order we arrived - Group 5, 4 then 3. At the next rest stop the order got mixed up and somehow I ended up leaving with Group 5. I came to realize this because we were moving at 13-14 mph on the trail. So, I stopped and waited for my old group to come by and joined them for about 20 miles to our lunch stop in Starkey Park. The remaining miles to Tarpon Springs were somewhat hairy as we had lots of traffic and some major roads to cross. All in all it was another great cross state ride and I'm ready to do another one.

Another C2C ride down in the books and another 1,000 mile month.

Sambo and I got out for 28.8 miles on a clear brisk autumn morning. We took some roads I has never been on before, and discovered a couple of new hills in addition to one we don't often climb to the top. Our pace has been picking up lately as I have dropped a few pounds and am feeling a bit livelier. Many more to go, however...

20.1 cold miles this AM. Light wind, sun came out half way thru the ride. Overall not too shabby. If I don't miss too many days I'll make my goal of 5,000 miles for the year.

30 quick miles at a brisk pace in great late afternoon weather. The standard Newberry box loop. Strong finish, and I feel great. I felt a little tired during yesterday's ride, perhaps it was the after effects of all that climbing in VA, coupled with dehydration. Back home, showered and ready for the trick-or-treaters.

Enjoyed my regular day off the bike yesterday, and did absolutely nothing. This morning, I went for a short, 25 mile ride with my buddy Steve to keep the legs from getting too stiff. I'll resume my normal cycling routine tomorrow.

That is beautiful. I'd love to bicycle tour Scotland, Ireland, and England (and maybe other parts of Europe). Just a few thousand dollars short (sigh).

Dusted off the trusty ol' Allez (haven't ridden it in a month), added air to the tires and rode it for 17.1 miles on a cold Northern Nevada morning. This aluminum bike is like a comfy pair of favorite old jeans.
The afternoon was sunny with low winds so I took it out for another 13.6 for a total of 31.4 miles. The sun disappeared on the back so it got a little chilly.

Ben Lomond is the highest mountain in the area with an elevation of 974 metres, 3196 ft above sea level. It's usually covered in mist/cloud but today we were lucky enough to see it in all its glory

Wow, the above photos are gorgeous! I rode a humble 32 miles at a great pace in moderate breeze/wind. It's really cooling off here in Gainesville, and being a hearty Northeasterner, I'm looking forward to the cooler weather.

15 miles Tuesday evening. App sez only 13 mph. Sure felt faster. I'm gonna blame the hills and wind and a mediocre engine.

Yesterday I rode 71 wonderfully wicked windy miles starting out with the guys sucking wheels at 24mph but winding up with many of the miles by myself. 3 weeks and 1 day from total right shoulder replacement and restricted to riding upright handlebar bike for another 5 weeks. One heck of a workout trying to hang on as they dance on their pedals riding their much, MUCH lighter road bikes. Great preparation for the Horrible Hundred Century on the 20th though.

17 cold miles on the Tarmac SL - and a rear flat. Dunno why, no stickers, no debris, just went flat. These Continental tires are tough so I started carrying the plastic wrapped steel tire tools. But the thicker curved ends would not grip the tire. I almost couldn't get it off (I still have quite a cursive vocabulary). They're great for muscling the tire back on. I need to carry one of each.

Dropped off my car for an oil change, 17 miles. Saw a Ruby Crowned Kinglet along the WO&D bike path. Made my day.

I run Gatorskins on my Giant, and I could not get the darn thing on correctly after a flat (23mm), and felt vindicated when I took it to a dealer and he messed with it for over an hour! I'm not sold on embedded steel ends.

30 quick ones through back horse country in Alachua County. I call one section 'The Funnel' because of the long down and up hill, and the incessant headwind because of the open plain. It's so predictable, I'm starting to enjoy it. One more ride here tomorrow after work, then back to VA for 5 days of riding there��
