Vain, But Lacking Talent
I'm actually having some of those iphone to android issues with getting text messages due to imessage. I think there is a number I'm supposed to be able to call to get my number de-registered from the list so they will go through as MMS.

In HTFU news: I remembered that two guys from the group of shops I worked at did that 900 mile ride just last year. I pulled up the images on instagram to see if I could get a better idea of what parts of the route were like. I did see some rough stuff, but the photo of them at the end? Yeah, there's a freaking pink Trek Crockett sitting there with a tail bag. So somebody did it, but maybe on the supported option. I think I can go light enough self supported. So if I do alright on the 3-day even in October, it will be time to build up some tubeless rims with my dynamo hub.

Yeah, a complete downpour would be no fun, but how long could that keep up? I'm okay with more garden variety rain - it'll give me a good excuse for being pokey.

I learned real quick to avoid the dirty water dogs. I had the ass-clenchingist 5-block walk home from Prospect Park that fateful day.

Guy sitting across from me in the jury room had surrounded himself with ultra-right wing treatises. I'm pretty sure that he was preparing his case to get thrown out whether he was a neo-nazi or not.

A teammate of mine is a shameless Strava troll and moved to my part of town in the last 6 months. He also considers himself a "TT specialist" and goes out to troll segments I've created on his TT bike when the winds favor him. He also happens to be fairly strong, which is annoying.
Not only do I get regular emails from Strava about segments I've made near my house being taken by this guy, he also sends me text screenshots of his ride achievements. I don't even bother going out to try to get them back.

Well, I've been packing all weekend, and moved the pool table into storage.
When I bought it, I had the pick out of all of the commercial tables from a particular pub that was closing, and for some damn reason I picked the one with the heaviest sub frame. I TOTALLY regretted that Sat when I was hefting the beams downstairs. Each sub frame beam is solid oak 4" x 8" x 7', and like >100#. This table's subframe is literally 2x what the other ones weighed with the same dimensions. This is like the depleted uranium version of oak, or something like that. I didn't screw around with the slates myself, not when I'm already paying a table mover. The whole shebang is just shy of a ton.
I'm moving into storage on Friday. Ugh. I'll need to take 2 days off work, too.
Maybe we found a house. It's perfect, but right at the hairy edge of our budget. In final price negotiations right now. I would still be 3 weeks at the in-laws place if we get it. The worst part of the price is that it eats into my MTB budget

No spoilers, but that descent by Froome a few days ago still amazes me. Just watched it again. I wonder if more people on the 41 will adopt the top tube pedaling style after seeing both Froome and Sagan using it recently?
Edited to add: I loved hearing Jensie call it "a little miracle" in his accent on the NBC coverage.

I use to rack up flat and downhill KOMs on one of my low racer recumbents. Then I'd get comments about having cheated which I thought was funny since most of these guys were attackng them in a pace line or on TT bikes on a super windy day.
I only consider climb KOMs to be non-suspect.

Same. I really only pay attention to climbing KOMs. I have two of my regular loops set up as segments so I can see my own performance on them over time. I have the KOM on both of those 20 and 35 mile loops. Out of all one of the people that have attempted them.

Casually Deliberate
Someone just gave me three old ice cream maker motors and my first thought was "Cool. I should use one of them to make a robot." Of course, I have never built a robot, know nothing about building robots and, being 54, I have no idea what I'd do with it if I did build one. Should I just throw them out?

Even when I've ridden in Austin it's mostly short, punchy climbs. Some of them are stupid steep, but most of them aren't sustained climbs like you find in properly mountainous areas. There might be better ones in surrounding hill country. I've never had a chance to ride much when I do visit there. I had been planning to (and still might) drive a few hours away just to do a loop in the Ouchita "Mountains" in OK and AR. Texas isn't pancake flat, but it's mostly rollers.

I did that on my first day ever riding in the mountains. It was very painful.
