Found in Mansfield TX - Mid 80s Cannondale Crit
Found at the Mansfield Salvation Army, looks like a bright yellow Cannondale Criterium for $200. Looks big based on head tube, like probably 58-62cm. Original Suntour 6 speed, not Dura-Ace.
I'll be driving by that store later this afternoon, if anyone cares I can go measure it and get a serial number. $200 is a little rich for my blood.

Not too many yellow crit Cannondales. The 1987 catalog has that Dura-Ace-equipped model, and that's pretty much the only yellow one I can recall.

I paid somewhat less than that for a nearly pristine 1985 Cannondale ST 400. I'd rank it as one of the nicest bikes I've ever owned and this is coming from a long time steel bike guy.

I'm not 100% sure that it's a crit, I was going based on the geometry more than anything. I took a few photos but my phone ate most of them. There is a tribal pattern with blue and white stripes and orange dots on the left chain stay and right seat tube, not sure if it's original. Here are the photos that survived.

I think that is a touring model, but whatever it is it YUGE!

Now that I look at it again, I don't think it's a crit. I should have checked the saddle bag to see if there was anything good in there.

I'm thinking it's a 1987 ST400, probably 25", maybe 27".

@scotton it's definitely an STxxx, which is still a fantastic bike. And now looking at the 1987 catalog, a 1987 ST400 fits the bill. As an owner of a 1990 ST400 (now with canti brakes for lower-end models!), you can absolutely treat them like an SR/SC model when out of the saddle. No sluggishness in the frame, with the bonus of being able to put 32-35mm tires on 700C wheels for a still-smooth ride.
@RobbieTunes that's what I'm saying with my '89 SR800 (crit geometry). That thing is dialed in, even at 66cm with a nice and steep 74.75° HT. Quite a looker, too.

Yes, it’s an 87 st400. I’ve got one but without the custom paint. It’s my daily commuter and I love it dearly. Highly recommend.

As far as ride quality goes there is a HUGE difference between the SR and the ST models. I'd put the sublime ride of the ST models against any steel bike, any day. I wish I hadn't sold mine.

Definitely an ST, with that geometry; and definitely an '87 with those "Factory Custom Graphics." Has the dubious benefit of still wearing the dorkiest looking dork disc ever conceived by the mind of human beings. At any rate, a real find for $200 in that shape, and I'd be begging you to send it to me but for my very nice '90 ST in the same size already in my stable.

Concur with the others, that the touring models are terrific. They are as responsive as a racing bike, are reasonably light weight, and can rock a 32c tire. I love my 1985 Cannondale ST 400.
