1982 Puch Austro-Dailmer SLE...my first Austrian bike
I just bought this one early this morning from a gentleman who got it from the original owner at a House Sale. When I saw the first photos, it was covered in dust from sitting for years in a basement. When I got to the guys house, he left it out in the rain in his backyard last night...!@#$%^&*...but at least the dirt was off.
It's all there as it was in 1982, right down to the rotted tires and the Huret Duo-Par rear derailleur that needs some work done on it as it's sitting in the rear gears (maybe why the bike was put away all those years ago?). Overall, though, the paint and decals are in really nice condition.
I left the bike out to sit in the sun for awhile after taking the photos, so the saddle has dried out. Though the frame is to small for me, I might think about fixing this one up as a display piece because of its condition. I can't wait to start my cleanup!
Price? I paid a very reasonable, IMHO, $70.

Very nice find for $70 OP, 531, Huret running gear, looks like the paint and decals just need a good cleaning to be near mint. Have fun with it.

Original, crumbling tires, as if there was any doubt. Rear derailleur is missing parts and bent, so I'll replace.

Paint and chrome are spectacular and shining up like new. Low mileage bike that ended it's use due to the oft mentioned screws coming loose and vanishing, causing what you see in the photo when Imfirst purchased it.

OK, I am a bit biased in favor of Austrian bike frames (see signature), but I really like your A-D, even if it did come from Graz instead of Vienna. That rear derailleur was nothing special to begin with, so don't fret about replacing it with something more serviceable.

It's something of a "time capsule" with many OEM components even if some are now rotting. This is a three-main-tubes frame but rather than the Columbus SL we think of as "tre-tubi" this is main tubes Reynolds 531 and the distinctive "maroon metallic" paint that AD/Puch/Steyr used for so many models. Interesting that the dropouts are GPM and not Shimano.

Sure they did, as did Motobecane and the occasional Gitane and Raleigh (and probably more). We just don't have the handy term "tre-tubi" for these bikes made from 3-main-tubes-Reynolds-531 (or for that matter Vitus) only cause they aren't Italian.
