Hi, I just purchased a Shimano 7410 sealed Cartridge headset on ebay... From what I know, the bearings are sealed... when I took them out of the cups there was oil or grease leaking out of them into the cups because they are greasy / Oily... is this normal? or did the last person try to re-grease them? Also the bearings feel like the MIGHT be a TINY TINY bit gritty... feels like there may be a grain or two of sand in there... I just thought I'd ask here before I contact the seller about this,

Mine were greasy, I wiped them off, added more grease, and installed it. Seems fine.

you could always buy new cartridge bearings if they are crusty, but they'd have to have some serious mileage on them or have been left out in the elements for a while.

Wipe them off and squeeze new grease into them.

I had an Ultergra/600 CBHS that I dissassembled the cartridge and cleaned and repacked and it came out as good as new.
Assuming the cartridges are similar/same.....
Mine was gritty and I wasn't having any luck finding replacements.
Really easy to do.

Thanks! if I just wide it off and re-grease it would regular Phill Woods grease work fine?
