The best part of our Christmas is the gathering of family. There are enough that we lease the hall in the American Legion. That way there is even a bar in the next room for those that need a brief escape.lol
I like the rules there. No pop or other drinks to be brought in . That way we give support for the legion.

Why is there traffic congestion, commercialism, and guilt?

This was part of our Christmas break last year. We had been through a lot of stress. Rowan had survived his accident but was still in early days of recovery and I was exhausted. So we went to quiet places.

Holidays mean time off work. Time to travel to a nice quiet place. Time to cycle, hike, walk, etc. Time to relax and enjoy life.

I didn't "say" anything. I wrote something.

If I could live in a place like where you live . . . so nice.

Instead, I gotta live in this*. Could be much worse, of course.

*Pic from 26 years ago. The sprawl wasn't as bad as it is now. Estimated 3.3 million people back then, estimated 6.9 million people now.

If you're dreading the holidays then you're likely suffering from some level of depression. You can talk to a therapist, or just resolve to be more active in the activities and events that surround the holidays. Just getting out and participating in the events can improve your mood and put you more in the holidays spirit.

Merry Christmas. 🎄

The letter carrier who delivers to our office suite certainly has the spirit. He's nice 24/7/365.

It's the end of my first day of 16 off, and I have ticked off some things I wanted to do:

-- sit in the sun (late day sun)
-- sit in our garden
-- sit and read in the sun in our garden
-- lie in bed and read
-- sleep!

We've also been watching Christmas movies in the evening (yesterday and today) and listening to lots of Christmas music during the day.

I'd exercise but I had a biopsy on my right leg on Friday, so nope. See Weekend Rides Thread in Road.

Don't buy in to the commercialism and corporate media... live all days as equally common and special at the same time! Contemplate the days and nights as they wax and wane....

A happy/merry, calm and complete, natural Solstice to all.

Haven’t “bought in” for quite some time. I still get sick of it.

I'm waiting for this Christianity thing to blow over. The new winter holiday could start with a legend of a hero athlete dying in the big game.

Well it started off as a pagan celebration. Would you want things to go back to the way they were?

It'll blow over about the time that Islam and Judaism blow over.

Ugh, this holiday season:
1. I crashed a couple of weeks before Christmas on my bike and managed to (mildly) separate my shoulder. This ruined my plans for this vacation as I planned on spending it getting into swimming shape. Can't swim with this shoulder.
2. My daughter came back from college with some kind of an alien cold that has caused her to cough incessantly and extraordinarily loudly night and day every day for two weeks straight. I have sympathy that's she's sick but, like any teenager, she refuses to do anything about the cold: forgets to take medicine, refuses to drink liquids, refuses to take a hot shower... etc. When I convince her to take some GD Advil Cold and Sinus... what a Christmas miracle! The post nasal drip stops and the coughing stops! I love the kid but this has frankly driven me to madness.
3. We went and visited my parents, always a questionable decision. For complex familial reasons, this visit was particularly exasperating: they were fighting constantly, needling each other constantly, distracted when they weren't fighting, ignored my kids and were on edge the entire time we were down there. I was glad to get out of there.
4. I'm at the age where none of my friends are around over the holidays due to familial responsibilities and travel etc. I am so. F$%^ing. Bored.
5. The weather has been complete s%^& here in Chicago: too warm for trails to freeze and allow singletrack, and yet cold and damp enough to make the roads super slick and the road riding uncomfortable. Also, this whole "sun sets at 4:30" crap is annoying every year.
6. F%^$ing Illinois taxes. F%^$ing Illinois taxes. If you live here, you understand.

Ok, that's enough whining. For today.
