Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Starbike.com legit for U.S. buyer?

Germany's Starbike.com seems to have good prices for Campognolo wheels. Is it a legit place? I'm looking at some Bora one wheels in the $1600 price range. What are the chances I will get billed from U.S. customs? Thanks!

I don't know anything about Starbike, but I have heard good things about Slain Cycles. They have some good wheel prices.

The German sites are great in my experience. I have bought from Bike24 with good results and they price match aggressively. Great prices, fast shipping and very responsive customer service. No customs fees coming into the US.

Have you compared prices for those wheels at these places?

I don't think that anyone can tell you this with certainty; I think that getting hit from customs is a roll of the dice.

Bora One 35 and 50s are both going for around $1400 on PBK lately, depending on color and freewheel options.

I've bought about 5K worth from starbike over 4 orders (two were wheel sets worth 2k and 2.2k) and never had any customs fees and their service is top notch

Edit-also if you post on the weightweenie forum you'll get 5% off your order...just don't spam their forums or they'll take the discount off

I bought my Corima S+ Tubulars from

Starbike. A truly easy transaction. I didn't receive a customs bill and the wheels arrived inside the two week target. I have also purchased from Bike24 (albeit not wheels) and also consider them a great option.

I ended up ordering the Campagnolo Bora Ultra 50 clinchers from Merlincycles in the UK. The price was roughly the same as Starbike but included a pair of Continental GP SII tires and tubes.

I have purchased from them them a few times. They give the 19% VAT discount. Sometimes their stock/inventory is off. I'm waiting for a wheels order now.
They are Legit and the sponsors of the WeightWeenie forum.

I'll let Trump know too. There is no USA equivalent. So I doubt it.

What does this mean? Ask for the discount because it’s included in the prices then they take it off?

Thanks

Yes. If you are not in a VAT place, like USA.
They also gave a 5% for posting on WeightWeenies

Damn. Thanks. So did you call them and place the order I’m guessing??? Or email for a code or something? Then let them know my user name on weight weenies?

Sorry for all the questions.

There was a min amount of posts required to get a discount. I don't recall. This is an old post.
Email. Your WW id and, I did the order, sent a copy and emailed that the VAT Tax was not removed and I was in the USA. This was two years ago, and without researching my emails, the exact details takes too much work. I have ordered several times from them. The OP was asking if they are legit - and absolutely they are.

I did not from Starbike. I did (I believe incorrectly) from Bento bikes for a replacement ax-lightness rim after the fact from DHL.

Sorry for all the questions.
VAT gets deleted when you select the destination country(if they don't pay VAT).

i bought a set of Ritchey wheels from Starbike

of course shipping took a while and then i think it takes more time cuz the package had to go thru customs.
when i wondered about how long i sent star an email and they responded more than once in a reasonable amount of time.
one problem was i weighed the wheels when they got to me and weighed a big bunch of grams more than quoted on the star website and every other website both in the U.S. where I am and on sites across the world. i first complained to Ritchey USA and they would not do anything to remedy. no returns, no discount, no nothing. and of course it would have been expensive for me or star to have me ship them back. star apologized and offered a small refund and i was happy. the weight of the wheels is now corrected on most websites.
