Addiction LXXVII

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ah, that would be a no-go then.

I had a salad for dinner last night, probably again tonight, too.

i think, given the overall situation, I’d be willing to part with up to $200 for a nice bottle of whiskey. Though I have to say, I’m finding sooooo much value in the $35 bottle of Suntory Toki I’ve been enjoying lately. The other day, I found Oban14 on sale at my local establishment and needless to say grabbed a bottle too

So i went to the supermarket for the second time today about mid-day. It was just as packed as 8 am this morning and shelves were just as empty of many items. I went to get coffee which I forgot earlier and there was plenty on the shelves. In an e-mail from my niece living in our hometown in upstate NY, she told me stores there were nuts.

Regarding panic, I've heard it said that optimists have not fully understood the problem. I've had a very silly scene playing out in my head after observing local behavior. Astronomers detect a huge asteroid barreling toward Earth. It is as big as the one that killed off the dinosaurs. There is near panic among the people rushing to stores to stock up on toilet paper.

I was at the liquor store, hell bent on buying a certain bottle if I saw it... but I didn't see it. And then I started looking over my other options, doing quick Google searches, etc. I'm sure this is something that nooooo addicts can identify with, but in the end I succumbed to analysis paralysis and walked out empty-handed but determined to come back better prepared.

In an interesting twist, the collapse of oil prices dropped the peso:dollar exchange rate 3%. This afternoon I got 21.43 pesos to the dollar, the highest I've ever gotten. At the same time, gas prices fell significantly. I just got richer across the board. Mexicans not so much.
And Home Depot stock dropped 20% today. I read somewhere that this is what panic looks like.

Just inside the door at Costco, there were sales of a few items. Fila running shoes, for $20, was my panic purchase of the day. My current shoes are not safe to walk in and the ones I ordered from Amazon could still be a week away. They also had nylon shorts at a great price. I picked up a pair of those to use as cycling shorts as we head back into the hot season.

Emeril is good, but I wish my grandmother could still cook her gumbo- that is my favorite of all time.
I've not had a roux made with beer before, that I know of anyway...sounds good.
