Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have no desire to ever go that fast on a mountain bike, or any bike, really.

I'll probably keep the regular road pedals on the roadie for the foreseeable future, as it's a bike that I clip in once and don't get off the bike until I'm back at home. Plus I've still got a pair of road shoes and cleats with lots of life left in them, and using one of those 3 bolt -> 2 bolt cleat adapters doesn't really give me any advantage over what I've got now.
At first, I only went SPDs on the tandem and Looks on my other bikes but after getting to a ride a couple times with the wrong shoes me me decide to go SPD on everything. A six years ago, I lost a lot of weight and was riding with a pretty fast group and wanting to be one of the boys, caved in and bought a set of Look pedals and shoes. I did notice that it felt like I had more power but my average speeds indicated no change. By the end of the Summer, I went back to SPDs and sold the Looks. Convenience overruled.

One thing I do actually like about the Look cleats I've got now is that they are zero float. I don't really notice it on the road bike, but I love how they feel on the fixed gear. Feels like a very solid connection to the bike.

Busy day in the office with lots of telemedicine visits. I wanted to buy lunch for the staff as a thank-you. We decided on Chinese carry-out. It turns out that apparently all the Chinese places are closed. I am confused, I would have thought they would be doing a booming business with everyone cooped up at home.

Someone suggested their business went under because COVID19 no one wanted any Chinese food.

On the subject of tandems, most Addictionites are aware that my wife has broken her back 5x, pelvis 5x, clavicle 2x, radius 1x, metacarpal bones 1x, ribs 6x, sternum 1x, and had breast cancer surgery in the last 3-1/2 years. She suffers chronic pain and two-wheeled riding in particular is painful. So, today's windy 12.2 mile ride was her first two-wheeler ride this year but she did it and she's happy. Even bought me lunch at the local Steak and Shake drive-thru.

I ride only platforms, and have even given up toeclips(old man). Lately though, I find myself behaving as if I'm clipped in, on tight turns and turn-arounds. The last time I was clipped in was in the second half of the 90s.

It's a rocket when the riders are in shape. We crashed it bad in 2016 going around a corner. The Garmin file listed final speed as 26.5 mph. That crashed laid both of us up for 5 weeks. That was my wife's first round of broken bones. We've never been the same since.

I'm the exact opposite, every single one of my bikes have clipless pedals. Toe clips are romantic but I don't have the right shoes for them. Quill pedals just don't work with soft soles.

That may change later this spring pending a handlebar swap on the Motobecane to a more upright style. I read the Rivendell Google group quite often and it's making me want to put together a bike that encourages me to "just ride", however that ends up meaning for me. I have a feeling that's what I do nowadays, but who knows?

Great pic!

I don't see the model name but it appears to be a Supremo like ours but with carbon wheels.

We are on our 5th tandem since 1982. We did some stage racing in the late 80s, early 90s. Pacelines in the upper 30s, no kidding. Huge chainrings and straight blocks.

Got rained out yesterday and the kids we're buggin' today, so I snick out for a quick, sunshiny spin. First short-sleeved ride of the year for me in MN. Felt great to let the wind blow through my (leg) hair.
