Italian BB compatibility
Hi all,
I'm hoping to get some help here with my vintage bike upgrade. It's a mid-80's Gardin/Cambio Rino frame with a 70mm BB shell. I am replacing all the components with late 80's/early 90's 105 components, including a 1055 crankset. Am I correct to assume that I can use a cartridge type BB, say like this one: Shimano UN55 Square Taper Bottom Bracket | Chain Reaction Cycles in a 70mmx115 configuration, and it should be fine? Thanks.

36mm x24 tpi, both RH thread, and 70mm wide bb shell, is the Italian part the length of the spindle is dictated by the needs of the cankset..
IDK what the 90's Shimano 105 used ... ask the seller ... their business in that.
There is a bit of length adjustment if the seat tube is Oversize rather than steel 9/8" since it moves the FD location outboard a Bit ..
add 4.5 mm was what Campag's specs said when I got a Campag Crank and was getting their cartridge BB for it.

Thanks for the reply. According the this site: VeloBase.com - Component: Shimano FC-1055, 105SC I am to be using 115mm for a 70mm shell. And Sheldon Brown chart here seems to concur with the information.
I just received the crankset from the courier and am about to order a BB. I just want to be positive that it's it's the one.

...this is a 6 year old thread. It's unlikely he will respond.

The BB-UN55 did fit fine. My frame was Italian threaded, which was what I ordered. Eventually, though, I ended up swapping it out with Hollowtech 2 crankset with Italian-threaded BB. Hope that helps.

Thank you. Mine is a low-end frame, which has English thread and I'm going with UN55 for my single speed build. Hope it works.
