Do you think it's cool when you see your make & model out on the streets?

so, as i was walking to get some lunch this afternoon, i spied a 2011 Scott SUB 10 Men just like mine locked up to a parking meter outside a nearby health club. being that Scott bikes are rare enough as it is in these parts, i was excited to see another same model year example of my bike, so i snapped a quick pic with my phone:

with the exception of the rack that he added, it's more stock than mine (i chopped down the steerer tube, chopped down the flat bar, added a downward sloping stem, added ergon grips/bar ends, added longer seat post, added fenders, and added a better saddle to my bike), but it's it's still the same alfine IGH/disc brake all season beast that makes for such a good all around utility/commuter bike.

and here's a pic of mine for reference:

I don't think I've ever actually seen the same make/model as one of my bikes out in the streets. Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention...

Riding vintage steel like I do it's not real likely but I did see a much smaller version of my bike at the local co-op the other night which was weird but cool.

I like that your bike twin is locked up to a no bike parking sign.

I'd see the same model occasionally back when I rode the old '00 Trek 3700, same as with the '05 Kona Fire Mt. There's another Motobecane Outcast 29er at school, but it's stock and mine isn't. I wouldn't be that surprised to see another Nashbar X, but I'd be shocked to see another Van Dessel WTF. I did get really excited once when I saw a Huffy White Lightning locked up to a rack, because that was the first multi-speed bike I ever had; I wanted to wait for the owner and try to buy it, but the lady talked me out of it (which is good; what am I going to do with a 25 year old department store bike that probably doesn't fit?).

If I rode a Magna or a Roadmaster, I doubt that I would even notice the same model bike, because they're everywhere. When I drove a Geo Metro, I loved seeing other Metros (rare in Anchorage). Now that I drive a Subaru Outback, I just get annoyed about how hard it is to pick my car out of the mass of Subys in any given parking lot.

i'm glad you noticed that; those "please use bike rack" signs are completely and utterly ignored. all of the parking meters on that block now has one of those signs, and more than 2/3 of them had a bike locked up to them this afternoon. it's like "thanks for the suggestion, but i'm still gonna lock my bike up here anyway". it's a perfect example of how you can't change people's habits by asking them to please not do something.

I don't see them often, but I get a kick out of it when I do. I shout "nice bike!" at the rider.

in the one and only time i've seen another frame as mine, i also got pretty excited. like yours, mine has lots of post-production differences compared to the stock offering, all of which only made me miss my bike even more (i was walking by at the time)

Well, I ride a Surly in Austin, so it's pretty common to see my CC's twin out and about.
Regardless, I get very excited.

Whenever my fiance sees my head turn, she never assumes it to be a woman. I'm either checking out bicycle or photography gear.

That might be neat, but titanium bicycles are rare, Campagnolo is rare, and the two together in "vintage" form with quill stem and Tullio aproved classic silver components almost like purple unicorns.

Last year I did see a guy on a Campagnolo equipped Merlin. Not a Lynskey made Litespeed but close enough.

One of the LBSes had a Moots with Campagnolo 11 components, but black aluminum parts are a crime against nature.

I have yet to see the same as mine. In a way it'd probably be cool, but I doubt I'd recognize it after all the modding I've done to mine.

Actually that becomes a good cover for checking out women as long as there's a bike nearby.

I only know of three other bikes like mine in my area and two of them were sold, so no idea if I'll ever see them again. Surly's are fairly popular around here, but not the Pacer.

I voted that it's cool, but I need an option that says it would be cool if I ever saw one. I haven't seen any other Fargos yet. I did see one other Rocky Mountain but it was a Hammer, not a Fusion, of similar age ('93) to my Fusion. I liked it a lot. Mostly I can't tell what the other bikes are. That's how I am with motorcycles, too: I know BMW airheads and old Triumph twins when I see them. That's about it.

I will never see another custom Geekhouse Woodville, welded by me, on the street.

Could be my area or choice of bikes, but I never see anything remotely close to my hot-pink Bianchi, the mid-60s "Armstrong", or the bright yellow Diamondback. I sure would get excited and do a double-take if I did!

I don't care about a make and model.. I have removed all the decals from my bikes.. I ride SS/FG bikes and when I see another SS/FG rider I think that's very cool.

On the annual Thanksgiving Day ride (we usually have a few hundred riders) here a couple years ago there was another '84 Specialized Sequoia just like mine. What made it interesting was that our bikes were the only ones on the ride with fenders. Fenders were not original equipment on this bike but we had both added them later.

Never seen my exact make and model on the road before. I do notice when I see other bikes in the FCR series, which I have a couple of times, though they are usually the lower end models (3100 or 3300). Never seen another 3500 or the higher end 3700 on the road before.

I'm never happy to leave my bikes with their stock parts, so I never see exactly the same bike as mine, but I love seeing the same make and model. I especially like it when the other owner has also customized it. I don't see a lot of Kona Jakes on the road as I commute, but the local cyclocross races are full of them. I generally see at least one or two that are even the same year at each race.

Cross Checks, which I also have, are a bit more common. It was really fun having a thread on this forum where everyone posted pics of their Cross Checks, because there are so many different things you can do with that bike.

Only once have I seen my bike under somebody else... oh that sounds wrong. Anyway, I did see my make and model but a different year and colour on the road about a year or so ago. I managed to hold back a friendly wave because that would just be weird.

if i saw the exact same make and model of bike out and about it would probably mean someone had stolen my bike and was now riding round on it. in which case i wouldn't think it was very cool.

I have spotted my bike's doppleganger several times around town. In fact the last time I spotted it, there was a gentleman riding it and we had very nice conversation about commuting. As it turns out the only other Cross-Check around town lives 4 blocks away from mine.
