Got one...

Finally found a place that knew what this is! On a separate thread on this forum some of the "Guys in the Know" called it junk. Pshhh, I also got my hands a Digiemmueno Frame and Fork, and an old school Mavic Groupo, Various Campy Components, Mavic Blues Wheelset, and more! I am in SoCal and hope this will make someone's day! Feel free to email me @ Ecoactivetours@gmail.com for photos of number 88 - Celeste

Pics? I didn't quite understand the comment about both derailleurs having internal cable routing, but from the rest I suspected this is what you had.

We have the same decals, I wonder if they are from the same batch. My serial is in the 90s I believe, and was allegedly one of the first shipped.

Thank You. The decals aren’t the originals but I think they look good on it. It is actually a European model bike but I’ve never seen another like it.

I don't know if it's a Proto or not. i meant to post those images in the Show us your Bianchi thread. If I can find that thread I'll post the images there and delete the ones here.

Thanks for pointing out that this is the wrong thread for the images I posted.

Cheers

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I am now the owner of the Bianchi Proto aforementioned in this thread serial 0041 (previously owned by c. c. rider). It has mid 90's decals, was repainted and bore a Columbus decal with “Riverniciato” on it (as discussed earlier in this thread). As I read that it was confirmed as Max tubing as all Protos are I replaced the sticker. Unfortunately it lack the original forks (if anyone has any leads) which I would love to have. It had a nasty dent in the top tube when i got it, and my cat knocked it over almost doubling it, despite that the frame still rides beautifully, and remains the most stable frame I have on quick descents...it feels like its glued to the road (vittoria corsa g+ also help.) I've built it up with 1996 Titanium Record group, with and older Chorus Crank (beefy with thicker chain rings), pedals, c-record BB, pre exa-drive alphabet cogs, Veloce hubs, Omega 19 rims, and Cinelli Giro bars. Though one day would be nice to have the original c-record group on it. The frame is a little big at 61cm, as I usually ride 59cm (leaning to 57cm) but it still comfortable for the most part. Just happy to have the fortune of acquiring one

It has been a while but some days ago I found pictures that are somewhat strange. French language 1989.

Two notes:

1. Not a MAX fork
2. The horisontal tube from the seat cluster to the head tube, the top tube, looks like an over sized straight tube. MAX is ovalized - look at all the pics in this thread.

This shows you can never be sure about anything Italian... ;-) Never seen anything like it in real life though.

Edit - my own frame as reference top tube and fork:

Is this from a Bianchi catalog or a magazine? Who is to say where the Proto frame came from. Maybe the original fork got damaged somehow or was cut too short so a different fork was added to use a different headset. It could be an optical illusion on the TT or maybe on smaller frames the front section of the tube wasn’t ovalized as much.

I believe it is neither a Bianchi catalog nor a magazine - but a bike catalog. However I cannot find it again. Here is the rest of what I found - together they show what looks like a bike equipment catalog:

I agree on the fork. There are a gazillion possible reasons for the fork being substituted/changed to another model. The top tube on the other hand I believe actually is an oversize straight tube. It could be a special order, a prototype or just a test run. There are plenty of even smaller Proto frames in this thread showing a clear ovalizing that gives a tapered look from the side.

What ever it is I think it is interesting and adds to the Proto "history".

Another Caurus Proto (?) Frame.

Hi styggno1. I came into possession of what I believe may be a Caurus Proto frame in black & pearl coral (more details on the Bianchi number id. thread).
If you are still compiling a list of frame numbers, mine is F.301 and domiciled here in London.
I can't post the pictures to the thread but I chucked them up to my gallery and (if I did not muck it up), the public gallery.
It came to me from the cycling Gods, well, it was dumped behind our communal recycling bin and I believe that it belonged to my late next-door neighbour, new people having moved in and cleared out his shed. Lovely chap who died in his 30s who I saw out and about on a variety of quality machines.

Further to my previous post, I have been sent some pictures and info. from two of my Italian wife's loony, obsessive friends which are (the pictures of the bicycles, not the loony Itis) identical in dimensions and paint-job to my gift from the Cycling Gods.
Some were from owner-generated sources others were from commercial dealers and all were, as mine appears to be, Columbus Max tube-set with no lugs apart from the top of the seat tube with all joins tig welded. Each example, all with the same black & pearl coral paint, described as Caurus Proto.
Definitely another one for your register styggno1 !

My best guess for the year manufacture of F.301, from what I have seen, is C.1990 as it has through-tube cable routing and separate cable guides on the bottom bracket however, I could wide of the margin.

Welcome OlderNotWiser - to the Proto Proto Caurus knowledge compilation thread!

I am still working on the list but I am not as active as before. Maybe once a month I scan the net for "new" ones.

You have written it "F.301" "F dot 301" - does it actually have a dot?

Looking forward to pictures!
