Hi, I'm a noob!

Hello everyone!

Looking to get into biking, just for pleasure. As a kid I rode my bike all over town. A few years ago on a cheap Walmart bike I rediscovered this joy. But cheap Walmart bikes being what they are, the bike didn't last more than a year and it was too large for me, anyway. I haven't rode since.

I've picked out a used schwinn on ebay and am waiting for it to ship. As I near my 40s I'd like to spend more time outdoors - and drop a few pounds.

I'm in Illinois and I hate it, having grown up in Washington state. But maybe I can find some fun (flat?) trails.

Nice, maybe they can clue me in on some fun places. I have lived here since 2003 but don't venture out of my town much.

In other news, the Schwinn I purchased on eBay was unexpectedly refunded... no explanation!

So the search began anew to try to find something both in my price range and height range. Now I'm expecting a 2019 Giant Roam. I know nothing about it. It was a little more than I wanted to spend with the shipping... but on the bike itself I think I got a good deal after seeing what most of them (bikes in general of all brands) are selling for.

Most frustrating of all was that every time I found a decent one it was local pickup only.

Greetings from London UK. Anyone into Italian steel, circa mid/late 80's I'm your man. Currently restoring 5x Benottos, 2x Bottecchias, to add to my Rossin, De Rosa, Colnago and Basso amongst many others.

Thanks everyone

Still waiting on my Giant to come in. It's supposed to be here Friday.
I've been reading around the forums and nobody seems to like the Roam much...
But it's a tough market. Very little in my size, and even less that will ship (everything - local pickup only). I had to take what I could get.

I hope the Roam will work for me. I like that the top bar is a little slanted, because I'm only 5'3". I like the way it looks, and I'm not looking for any sort of performance - only a little exercise.
We might be a match made in heaven
(hopefully).

looking forward to hearing what Schwinn you picked up.
i have (am?) slowly developing an appreciation for the versatility and low cost the Schwinn light weights (lite weights?).

was a single speed with a coaster brake and narrow bars
now 3x6 with comfy wide bars

Hello there.

Nice to hear from you. I grew up in
Washington State too. Very close to
Mount St. Helens when it erupted.
