Hi there!
I'm "dmason8" and I am very happy to have joined Bike Forums!
I'm now from the San Francisco Bay Area. Been here, except for a year in Shanghai, China in 2011 and also about five years in Houston, TX and then back to the Bay Area. Been in those three places, all added up, for about 37 years. Before that, which was 1981, I was born and raised in Canada, mostly Toronto. I'm a Canuck!
I just acquired a Trek 5.2 Pilot carbon frame road bike with a mix of Ultegra and Bontrager components.
I have been away from riding for about 20 years! Don't know why I took that hiatus (I'll use getting married and having kids, late in life, as an excuse!), but I'm back into it
Way back when, in the 70's I was a serious cyclist... Rode for a few teams in Toronto on top equipment for the day: one build I can remember was a Cinelli B frame with almost all Campagnolo Super Record components and Cerchio Fiamme Red Label rims and sew up tires (of course!). Also had a Colnago Super Frame with Campy Nuovo Record groupset. Sure wish I kept those bikes! Rode them for many years. Then years later, rode on a 1989 Cannondale fat tube frame with a full Ultegra groupset.
Those 'serious' days are over. Now it's time to just get back in shape and get back to the joy of riding!
See you on the Bike Forum...

Yes, I sure miss those bikes

Hi Mark, Thanks for the welcome! Who knows, there may just be a classic bike in my future. I miss those bikes so much.
I forgot to mention an Ellis Briggs (English) frame that I also rode on back in the day. It was also so nice! But between the Cinelli, the Colnago and the Ellis Briggs, my heart still sings when I think of riding the Cinelli! Ah, that was riding. Sailed painlessly over the roughest flats for miles yet could attack anything out there on demand...

Welcome damson. Those classic bikes like Colnago and Campy groups can’t be beat. I ride modern bikes but am looking out for the type of Classic I dreamed about years ago and no money.

Yes StanSeven, new bikes may have more technology, but those old bikes became part of your soul. They were true thoroughbreds. They had character...

And Leukybear, good to hear from a fellow Bay Area rider!

Indeed, TheGreenClover, it’s wonderful to reminisce about old classics, but when it comes down to it, the joy cycling can be had with any bike. All it takes is two wheels (or sometimes three!), a bit of friction between those wheels and the road so you can roll them forward with your feet on the pedals and it happens. The wind’s in your face and you’re rolling!
That’s cycling! No pressure

Bad grammar on my part! "All it takes ARE two wheels"...

Sorry!
