Removing 3M adhesive on brake
Have a defective hydraulic brake cutoff mounted on new Bafang conversion. Seller is sending a replacement. I mounted the defective one with 3M adhesive pads supplied with kit. Anyone know how to remove the old one without damaging anything? Is there a better way than tugging on the cable?

Goo Gone is the bomb. Paint thinners or more harsh solvents can dull paint. Goo Gone works perfect and isn't a biohazard.
Did I say goo gone works really well?

paint thinner is too mild to do much to anything. I would not go out and buy it for the job but if you have some laying around. it does not even effect plastic.

Try goo gone (or goof off) even once and I bet you will never go back to anything else for removing adhesive residue.

IME, some of the acetone, nail polish & paint thinners will rot the rubber parts of the brake system: the rubber coating of the brake lines, brake caliper cylinder rubber seals, or even worse contaminate the disc brake pads.
From decades of working on motorcycles disc brakes, I use the same CRC Brakleen for my bicycles & motorcycles.

Use paint thinner all the time. Acetone as well if the wife's nail polish is handy. Just use it outside to avoid the toxic fumes.
