Mirrors????
Is it consindered a total bike nerd to wear rearview mirror on your bike helmet! I seem to be dependant on it. Just looking for feedback, thanks.

In good weather I use a mirror on my eyeglasses. In rainy, drizzly weather, I use a helmet-mounted mirror in case I need to ditch the glasses. Both work fine.

Just got a helmet mirror myself a couple of weeks ago. I was doubtful at first, but it works quite well and looks better than a big clunker on your bike. I got the idea of making a wrist strap for a slightly larger mirror which I could use by simply holding my arm up for a better view. Haven't tested the idea, but perhaps you may consider something similar if the helmet mirror doesn't pan out enough.

i went with a handlebar mirror (mirrycle). it just worked better for me than the eyeglass-mounted style (and---shock and horror---i don't always wear a helmet). but no matter what, life without a rear view mirror is a life with serious neck kinks. ouch.

Better a nerd look than the hurt look (casts and bandages interfere with riding and clash with spandex ). I prefer a mirror clipped to my helmet vs glasses or attached to the bike. The absolute best one I have found is based on a design using a threaded-on mirror and a wire clamp made from recycled wheel spokes (or the same kind of material). You can get it new from Hubub Bikes in Ohio. Nigh-indestructible (mine has survived a crash at 20mph!) and strong enough you could use it as a handle for swinging the helmet around.

The Take-a-look mirror is favored by many. https://www.mtbr.com/cat/accessories/...76_117crx.aspx

I have mirrors mounted on both sides of my trike....never could get "comfy" with the eyeglass/helmet style.

I've used one since my first SkidLid back in 1982. If I'd had one sooner, maybe I wouldn't have been hit by a car from behind in January '82. I received my SkidLid as a Christmas present in 1981, but it was too small and I was awaiting the correct size when.................

Used one (a 3rd eye) for about 20 years on my helmet(s). Wouldn't know how to ride without it! Best safety tool you can buy.

Geez, someone has to be the fly in the ointment at this lovefest. I've never used one in 460,000 miles of cycling. I've never been unaware of overtaking traffic; motor vehicles are pretty loud and audibly give away their speed and lane position well in advance of arrival, if you know what to listen for. I have, however, had to take evasive action to avoid being hit by cyclists on bike paths who were intently staring into their helmet-mirrors.
My wife, on the other hand, always uses a mirror. Since I am stoker on our tandem, I guess I have ridden with a mirror even if I haven't used one. I think the key difference between us is that I have better hearing and twice the mileage. I do anticipate that within the next few years I will start using a mirror, mostly because my hearing, vision and flexibility are all deteriorating. This getting old stuff isn't for wimps.

I use one that mounts where the end cap of a drop bar usually goes. I only use one on the left side. Works very nicely.

Actually, they do. As do Leafs and Volts. Much of the noise of a motor vehicle is from tires and the car pushing through the air, although the electric motors aren't silent either. Still, I have used a handlebar mirror for decades since I sometimes get distracted by wonderful things while I ride and stop listening.

Not sure how many riders were killed this year here in Wisconsin but I know 6-7 of them were hit from behind and were experienced riders, I'll pay the $20 for a mirror so I know what's going on behind me. I know a lot of riders think it's Fred to ride with one but "better Fred than dead".

There are a lot of very quiet cars on the roads these days. Where I ride speed limits top out at 35mph. Many new cars can sneak up on you at that speed. There are also times where there is a car right behind the car behind me that I don't see. When the car behind me pulls around to pass a mirror is real handy to take a second glance back before I ease back out into the road. Another plus for mirrors is I can see a car coming from way off and sort of keep one eye on them until I see they are aware of my presence. I see no downside in having some sort of mirror but amazed at all the people I see that don't. I started riding to get in shape and enjoy myself, not wind up dead or in a wheelchair. I know lot's of people positively won't use a mirror while riding as it is some sort of taboo. I bet those same people have rearview mirrors on their cars and motorcylces. It just seems crazy to me not to have a rearview mirror when riding/driving in traffic.

Vegan on a bicycle
i just started using a helmet-mirror. it's geeky as hell, but awesome.
i tried a few different handlebar mirrors, and none of them worked for me. i've heard of people getting their faces cut during crashes from the take-a-look mirror, and i finally got myself an "efficient velo tools" "safe zone" mirror - https://www.amazon.com/Safe-Zone-Bicy.../dp/B003LVHZ4O
i like this mirror!
i can't imagine driving a motor vehicle without mirrors, so it's really nice having good a mirror while bicycling.
