Vintage Trek, no decals

I glanced around the vintage trek web page, but I’m still kind of unsure what bike this is.
dark blue, 27” wheels, Suntour components, Dia Compe brakes. Geo is 58cm tt, 60 seat tube. Not that it matters.

I plan to list it for sale for my non-profit (gearsforthegospel, check it out on Facebook) but I’m not sure how much to ask. I know the 27” wheels and low end components don’t add much. I just want to know a good/fair price.

thanks!

Something about this bike just sits right. Very photogenic. I’d probably work on that seat angle to give it top curb appeal.

For the sake of an estimate, let’s assume it’s not some rare, high-end Trek. The Trek nameplate alone adds market appeal over the other run of the mill vintage CL offerings. Coupled with what appears to be a ready to ride build, this former Texan thinks $175 on the low side on up to $275 in a better market. I just watched a nice 520 sit on CL here in Western Mass for a long while at $200. I’d expect DFW to be a bit more promising.

Around here with so so parts and 27 inch wheels, more like $125. Its all location. In the "good old days" pretty much ANY Trek road bike was at least $200, and the better models much more than that. I sold a lot of 330s and 412s back then. And a nice 520 back then was $350 to $400.

If you want to know what it started as, just look up the serial number on vintage Trek.

I would agree while a great potential bike with some none ride issues no pedals and clamp on mid level DT shifter's with potential issues mounting looks low for this big of frame. I'm 6' and tend to ride large and I would likely have trouble riding this bike as shown. Even in major markets none riders seldom go for over $200

Good enough for a starting point. I just didn’t want to dive in the market too high or too low. I generally price these pretty competitively though because I would rather the money go to the cause sooner than later.

Thanks!

Is that like a '80 400 series? If so, that's a great bike. Do some simple sorting, and you should be able to get $200 in a decent market:

- mount appropriate pedals
- remove the computer and its cable
- polish the seatpost
- level the saddle
- route the brake cables over the bar and the rear on the nds of the head tube
- take great pics.

In the "good old days" sure. But now, a downtime shifter bike with so so components, no decals, big size, around here, $200 is not happening. I sold this 1987 Trek 400, with 531 main frame, perfect graphics, 700c wheels, looked brand new. Price? $150. I would have loved to have gotten more!In the old days, I would have gotten $250 plus for this bike. IMHO, the bike above is no match for the one I sold.

Reminds me a of 83 4xx model, the japanese produced version. Had one a few years back with similar look/build. Sold for 100 back when mkt was first tanking, no idea of current value.
