If you love your Tramac, I see no reason not to go for the Allez. IMO, the Allez and CAAD are just better riding alloy frames than others.

Go with the Allez smartweld frame. Its amazing. By far the best aluminum bike ive ever ridden(owned a caad 9 and 10. as well as previous allez)

When it comes to the latest hydroformed aluminum bike frames if you can wait until the 2016s to come out you probably can get one of "last year's" 105-equipped bikes ready to go for under $1K --e.g., a 2015 Felt Z85, on sale.

Go with the Allez. It will be easy to replicate the fit of your Tarmac. Also, the Allez E5 is a highly underrated alu. frame. I had an old S-Works E5 frame for awhile. It was a pretty sweet frame. I was pretty upset when I broke it. I liked it better than the Caad 9 that replaced it.

Don't overthink this. There are so many frames that have so many fans that one can conclude just about any of them will do. You just need to settle on a few options by trying them out if you are the picky type. I'm not picky so I just buy mostly used stuff off the web to try, knowing that I can set up just about any bike in my size range to happily meet my needs.

I ran into this a few months ago, if I was in the market for an Aluminium frame this would be a top contender, the finishes on the frame looks a lot better then the some of the top name Alum. frame.

If CAAD10 is in your budget, it will still be my top choice, but if you are looking for a spare bike, I will take this over the other top names.

I'd go with the Allez. My current race bike is an Allez Comp Race, and it's excellent. I like it better than my CAAD9. In terms of geometry, the Allez has a taller head tube than the Tarmac for a given size, but that's the only difference.

I haven't checked lately, but I'm pretty sure the CAAD10 isn't available as a frameset. It'd be choice number two for me.

I did something similar many years ago. Got a Scattante XLR frame to hang my spare parts off of. Liked it so much that I picked up a 105 9-sp group for it when 9-sp stuff went on clearance, and it's been a fantastic spare/guest bike. I did an MS-150 on it with no issues. It's a nice riding 7005 frame and came with a carbon fork for something like $129.

So what, buy the cheapest complete bike offered with the CAAD 10 frame and strip it. Ebay makes it easy to dispose of the parts. New takeoffs garner significant returns especially considering how cheaply the parts came on a complete bike.

But if you want to put 105 on it, how is it not sensible just to buy that version complete bike? How is a frameset going to benefit you?

Since it'd be my second choice, it's not an issue.

A frameset makes sense it you have the rest of the parts laying around. Otherwise, buying a complete bike is cheaper.
