Repo lever hoods source

This just popped up on the Facebook "Steel is Real" group. Looks like a good variety of models. No personal experience with them:

There are (or at least sounds like there will be) at least three different manufacturers of extinct brake lever hoods. King of the Mountain is the second, and yesterday a long-time member here says he'd have something ready in a couple weeks. Would be nice to list all three in a sticky someplace.

It is quite the jolt seeing all of the needed hard-to-find hoods suddenly available at reasonable prices!

I've been needing the AX hoods for almost a decade now!

This should increase the market value of hoodless AX levers by at least 2x, not to mention the calipers.

Someone on the forum posted images of some of his hoods. They’re real. I just ordered a pair of white 7402s. I’ll report back.

The racevelo guy has been posting here recently (as bike-vintage.eu). There is, at least, a real human in there somewhere.

In general, I think we need to be careful with potentially disparaging comments unless we are certain about what we are saying.

The new member who is making the reproduction hoods is responding near the end of this thread about Dura Ace hoods. I had actually ordered a set of DA AX hoods from him about 10 days ago and tracking says they will arrive tomorrow or Monday. I'll post pictures of mine when they arrive.

Why not request that he consider making MAFAC hoods? He appears to be very dedicated to this work.

They look nice. He might consider adding the Modolo classic anatomic. Best hoods ever!

I think it's amazing that he is doing this at all! This support for so many different types of levers is fantastic! I hope he is able to keep this going.

Good idea. And perhaps Universal. Not sure where the point of diminishing returns might be, there might be some "oddball" brands where it might not be worth it -- except for the person seeking some.

Oh, wait... perhaps not too hard to find someone calling MAFAC "oddball"!

EDIT: I just added a comment to that other thread.

Note that he likely needs a good original sample as a template unless he's talented with 3D modeling software.

Even with software to make good copy they need clean unused best of the production original example and original manufacturing specs.Which in the modern internet world they can get pretty easy.

I hope the elusive Shimano 5500 hoods will be available for my 9 speeds

I , as well as many others, were hoping someone would start making these hoods which all above, and MANY MORE are looking for !!!

I will be looking forward to those who have received their order and get their opinion.

They say it cost between 300-500 to set up the molds. Hopefully they are successful.

Think they look great! I recently bought completely new 600 AX levers, just to get original hoods for my dura Ace AX levers (not blue, but still). Ridiculous, but now I have a nice set of levers to match with repo hoods when needed in the future. And I don’t have to pay EUR 100+ for them.
