Mrs. Altair uses one of these and has no complaints at all compared to her prior plastic bottle experience.

I've found that steel containers work better than plastic, especially if I use isotonic with some taste. Plastic has tendency to absorb the taste and smell. phew

Trying very hard not to draw parallels with the princess and the pea... Oops.

I've tasted warm water from cheap bottles that tasted a lot like plastic, but I've never compared it to poop.

Two suggestions. First, fill the bottles up with ice, then top it with water. Icing the water does two things; it reduces the diffusion of offensive chemicals out of the plastic and into the water, and her taste buds won't be as sensitive.

Second, try drink mixes. Powdered lemonade mix or "energy drink" powder will give her something else to focus on. Then you can worry about whether it's too cold, or the mix is too strong, or too weak. Also, some of the flavoring may stay in the bottle if it's not washed thoroughly for plain ice water on her next trip.

Oh, unless she likes the flavor of unadorned beets, skip the beet juice powder.

My abiding memories of bike bottles (we had 'em over the handlebars in pairs) were magic. It's because everything had that taste I loved them. The frames were chrome plated like stuff was then, and they rusted.
Chrome stuff looked so good when it was new.
I never use water bottles now; my longest ride would only be an hour and a half.

Thermo:

Non-thermal:

I have the Deboyo - I use it for coffee (so the screw-lid is used). I removed the lacquer and branding - mine had a lot more branding than the one in the link.

This is how it looks in a King cage:

Sorry, I just realised that the non-thermo one (the Syssa) in the link above is actually aluminium, not stainless. The Deboyo is stainless, though.

Distilled? Do you mean "filtered"?

If you really do mean distilled, I tip my hat to you for the amount of effort you put into your water.

I got a Klean Kanteen for my wife and I use one on commutes. I suggest a King Cage Iris which holds it well without rattling.

this covers it 👍👍👍

Probably not a good idea to drink any water coming through water heater, as most heaters have aluminum in their anode rods.

Yes, I've been buying and drinking steam distilled for probably 40+ years. Gallon jugs at room temperature. I just use bottled spring water on the bikes, as I don't venture that far from home anymore. Regular tap water suffices for coffee and cooking through a standard whole house filter which I trust filters out the larger chunks of poop.

That is dedication. The water must be terrible around your parts for that to be worth it.

Municipal water around here is notoriously hard, as in 200 to 350 milligrams per liter of dissolved calcium, magnesium and iron salts just due to the geology. Then add chlorine to that. Safe to drink according to the powers that be, just tastes awful, to me anyway.

I'm super fussy about my water and my water containers. I taste every little thing. The only thing that consistently works for me is glass containers. They are heavy, and a pain if dropped...but they are the only thing I can work with.

Luckily we don't have chlorine in our water here. I hate the taste of chlorine.

Titanium, stainless, or enamel. In that order. Or gold, if you're that kind of person, he, he!
