Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shout out to Performance Bike

On the ride today and stood up to climb to the top of the levee road and the chain snapped! One of the links actually failed, not just a pin coming free.
Not an old chain either, a Whipperman with maybe 1000 or so on it.

Performance was about a mile walk from where I was and I figured either they could help me out, or I could grab a coffee next door and wait for the wife to come rescue me.

Unfortunately, Performance does not sell OEM chains for my 10s Campy anymore, so I could not get a new chain.

However... the mechanic remembered they still had a KMC lying around that did fit the bike and he helped me put it on.

Got me home, and no charge for the assistance.

FWIW, I like how the KMC shifts. I might stick with them over the Wipperman.

I like KMC on my Caad12. They are a little louder than OEM but I have long strong legs and the KMC can resist stretching far more than OEM.

Performance lives and dies by online reviews.

Corporate called the store manager within an hour of my posting a review of one of their mechanics.

If they did right then give them a good Yelp.

I am a big fan of Performance Bike. They have always treated me right. Prices are low. They run sales all the time. I do all my own work, but, the Columbus, Ohio store does have an ace mechanic.

Ditto, but he was trying to be helpful so I said yes.

Normally I don't let anyone work on my bike but me.

Because they are a big operation, experiences are going to be variable. Glad yours was good.

One thing that is not variable is their VERY generous return policy.
