I agree, Tom. Setting an absurdly high price makes people take a second look into why, and in some personalities, that generates the need to have it. If they get half the asking price, they'll still walk away with an extreme coup.

Yes, and maybe it generates offers. For all we know, they'll accept a $25 offer. And hey, they might get a $1,000 offer.

^^^^ But some somewhat valuable lipstick. The Ortliebs are worth more than the $50 referenced in the ad. And some nice barcons and a decent wrap job. Still overpriced, and kinda silly to throw in the shoes and helmet, with no mention of the sizes.

Assuming the guy made a mistake, I dropped him a note. He responded with an offer of $11,500. That eliminates a mistake as a possibility. Now it's down to "strategy" or leg-pulling.

^^^^^ Garden variety Mall*Wart BSO. Think GMC Denali, but a notch or two lower. Yes, they were issued as "road" (i.e. drop bar) bikes, with grip shifters. IIRC, it's done with (eek) a split handlebar.
Entropy is probably the best thing that could happen to this bike. This is why metals, plastics and rubber are recycled.

I looked it up, that's a 1985 420, mid range in their 'sport' line, TrueTemper double butted tubing... Most of the parts on it look original, but from the factory it came with a silver Maillard freewheel. oh holy bleep, the text in the add does say the freewheel was painted, yeeesh.
Sure looks taller than a 57cm/23" to me, I'd peg it at a 60cm/24.5". $1400, however, is ludicruous, thats maybe a $300 bike.

I suspect the seller is incorrect about the painting, unless he is the one who actually painted it. And I knew about the Regina Oro but based on the size and number of cogs suggested what likely and not just possible.
Then there's that (upside down) chainstay clamp-on cable stop. Was the original removed or did all True Temper frames have that through-the-dropout internal cable routing and the guy just could not thread the cable properly?
